Food surpasses all languages, and many people either have their own traditions or created ones for their stories. Anything goes, practices, dishes, holidays surrounding food, as long as it revolves around stuffing your face it's fair game!

Well, in my story the Gods have a feast at a certain time where they discuss what has happened in the time they have not seen each other. I like to think of it as a… Family dinner no one wants to go to.
"Hades! I haven't seen you in forever! How's your domain been?"
"Well, same as always. Full of dead people!"
Pretty much… All the gods are my own characters and there's a lot of shit between them.
One of my characters, before she left her family in pursuit of her now-husband, learned a lot about cooking both from her family and her job as a Huntress. There's the standard survival soup, throwing whatever's edible into a pot of boiling water when you're out in the wild and have eaten all of your rations, but the introduction of many foreign ingredients to the Shiara Desert allowed many people to mix their cooking practices with the new foods they could obtain. Bread was already common, but new spiced bread and even desserts were created with the introduction of fruit preserves and sweets like chocolate. Unfortunately, no one could escape that one desert delicacy that forced everyone to crunch just a bit harder. Due to sand wearing down people's teeth, they had preserves and other soft foods made of mashed fruits and vegetables, though that didn't always help…
one of my main characters, Holly, was always cooked for by her mother when she was young. after her parents' passing, she and her older brother had to start working in order to support their younger siblings. as a result, they don't really ever have the time to sit down and eat a homecooked meal as a family. they eat lots of takeout. however; each birthday, without fail, Holly's older brother gets home early to make an elaborate meal complete with the birthday kid's favorite cake. it always makes Holly a little emotional, which is unusual for her.
The Autumn Court goes all out with the food at feasts. There's pies, turkies, stews, soups, squash, and basically all of the fall comfort foods.
I moved this over to the new Food board! Go nuts, folks!
