All of these sound amazing! Let me throw mine in. I have nine races in my story although one race will get annoyed if you don't classify each of their variations as a separate race, effectively making it eleven.
I have the Falcari, who are a highly militaristic race of avian humanoids based on angels and harpies. Their social classes are based on the hierarchy of angels.
The Pyronar are a race of smiths and artisans based on demons and dragons. They have horns and some have scale patches along their bodies.
The Waylanders are a shapeshifting, water dwelling race based on merfolk and selkies. They are traders and explorers, they build floating cities that are half underwater.
The Rallor are also shapeshifters but are based on gargoyles. Each has a stone form that looks like a misshapen animal made of stone.
The Elementals are the race that demands that each variation be considered separate. So we have the lightning elementals (Sironi), the metal elementals (Mokrni) and the sound elementals (Varisni).
The Sote are teleporters, able to travel short distances in a blink of an eye, so their Talent is normally called 'Blinking' later im going to have them evolve into shaman type people since Blinking involves stepping into the Void, my world's equivalent of the afterlife.
The Crear are conjurers. They revolve around the concept of alchemy. and making one thing from another. As long as they study an object enough they can create it from their own energy if they don't have the correct materials. One of my characters uses her conjuration Talent to heal broken bones and organs in her job as a battlefield medic.
The Kiri are the talkers of my world. They have the innate ability to understand any language or code. A smaller few also have the power of suggestion and persuasion. This gives them an edge as they are livestock traders, specializing in Kirin.
Lastly are the Ilani. They were known as the most powerful race on the planet before they destroyed themselves in a civil war. Only a handful remain and those few are feared to the point were they are forced into slavery. There are only three free Ilani at one point. Their Talents are Telepathy and Empathy.
Sorry i tried to keep it short, I have soo much information on all my people that this site is a lifesaver. I can't wait to see more of others races!
I'm currently writing a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. Therefore, I'm using the races included in the core books, like humans, elves, dwarves, half-orcs, halflings, dragonborn, etc.
However, I do have Automatons in the storyline. They are animated with magic rather than electricity. Most notably in the first arc is Paragon, a treasure-seeking bounty hunter who my players will fight as a final boss.
All of the races. It's an alien universe. There are multiple universes.
ALL OF THE RACES
There are a bunch lol but I am still trying to think of names because races are not in a specific area - they are dispersed throughout the entire Empire
This is how I will describe them mainly (not using the words latino or middle eastern though)
Islanders - Mainly white or tan
Northern - Albino
Eastern - Middle Eastern
South - Latino
South Eastern - African American
I also have a bunch of mythical creatures but I still need to design them so they are not completely decided yet
@Jensenbear… oh, no! I'm struggling just keeping my few races organized! How do you do it??
I have a LOT! I love making fantasy races and creatures- on earth, there's just humans and some usual medieval fantasy races, but there are like 6 other worlds, each with unique flora, fauna, and people, so I get to do extra worldbuilding haha.
@Ember Ris I don't even know I just scribble things down on the scratchpad provided by this website lol
I only have about three races so far…Guardians (which are basically humans, striving for peace), Terrabots (android people that struggle with emotions and can be set off to kill mode quickly if you make them feel things) and Waker Knights (a race of all men that are ruthless soldiers that lack empathy)
One of my more recent characters is a Windborn Genasi, which are basically magic-infused beings who descended from more powerful beings. As a windborn, he can shape the air around him into a funnel and use it to cast the spells "levitate" and "gust of wind".
Well, there are a lot. The main ones are Humans, Elves, Orcs, Dwarves, and Orthians. Orthians are pale to olive skinned, generally very light haired people. They have a unique link to a certain type of magic, they are generally slim, and they are pretty much natural predators for any other sentient being. My Orcs aren't mindless beast or anything, but they are prone to serious violence and competitions of strength. Other races include Divine or Holy Elves, who have Spirit Magic, Sythali, Aquai, and Eldians. Sythali are beings with humanoid bodies and powerful wings and wind-related magical abilities. The Sythali races are based off of different predatory birds. I don't have names for the races yet, but they are based off of eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls. The Aquai are basically Sythali, but with water instead of air. They are humanoid with fish-like features that can manipulate water extensively. Eldians are beings who can morph into any other living being. Generally their "main form" or normal body looks like a Human or Elf, but sometimes they appear like Orcs, Orthians, or Dwarves and more rarely animals. They can learn to morph into many, many different beings. Eldians who have hone their magic strongly end up walking around with the strength of a bear, the eyes of a hawk, the agility of a cat, and the intelligence of, well, an Eldian, in their natural state. There are various other races, but they are more minor.
In my universe there are thousands of different races and each one is descended from a patron god, due to this each race has a different racial power . However humans are the mongrels they are descendants of nearly all the races meaning they have no racial power. But a rare few humans are born with a mark on their hand called an insignia ,those who have an insignia can use an incredible power unique to them.
some of my races are:
The Vampires: corrupted elves with pale skin and red eyes
The Eldrian:creatures who live in cave systems they have ebony skin pockmarked with flourecent spots
I chose to use what can be found in the three base D&D 5e books, just because it would be easy. Of course, I will be using some homebrew elements as well. Don’t get me wrong, there are thousands of races in my world, but I’m only doing this because I’m currently incapable of making a new race or creature. But when I do develop that skill, I’ll be able make what I want to. I can make items and objects just fine though.
I started out just like you @Allatron !
After I get more comfortable with my world's history and geography and stuff, I'd like to work more on creating some of my own races, but right now I'm sticking to what's familiar. There's quite a few sentient races, most of which are based off different creatures in mythology/fairy tales/fantasy lore, but to humans they're usually categorized into six families:
Humans: This not only includes regular humans but is also kind of an "other" category for mortal races.
Dwarves: Regular dwarves, halflings, gnomes, etc.
Goblins: Ogres, orcs, hobgoblins, friends .
Dragons: Sentient dragons only. Implying to a sentient dragon that they're in the same category as their feral counterparts is a HUGE no-no.
Demons: This name is misleading, as this category includes all sorts of nature spirits and denizens of different planes.
Fae: Like humans, this is basically an "other" category for immortals.
In-universe, there's plenty of scholars who disagree with and bring up issues with this categorization. How can you classify races that technically qualify for more than one of these families, such as halflings which can be put under both Humans and Dwarves? Where do vampires and ghosts, who start out as one race but then morph into another, fit in? Should golems be categorized as sentients? Other races have their own methods for sorting out different races, none of which I've quite figured out yet, but the setting as a whole can be considered a "melting pot" for different kinds of folklore and the types of races you'd find within.
Hello everyone! I'm still at the beginning of making my first really fleshed out world, which is going to have MANY different species. However, so far I really only have humans and two types of Elves, one of which becan extremely fleshed out as of last night and is making me very excited.
My world has several different species:
- Humans - Everybody knows what these are. (I hope)
- Elves - They are practically immortal, very good looking and adepts at magic. To tall for their own good.
- Dwarves - Fat, Greedy, Selfish, Adorable, Fearsome, Dangerous, Drunks, these are all words to describe Dwarves.
- Vampires - Any species that has been infected with Vampirism. The need blood to survive and can teleport and are allergic to sunlight. (it doesn't kill them). The are very skilled mages and can survive in the World of Night. (A universe were monsters live and the air is filled with poisonous gas)
- Relic Forms - A being that has been brought to life with the power of magic, usually through a relic. They are masters at the form of magic that brought them to life and are virtually indestructable.
- Rogues - Half elf/Half any other species. They're technically not a seperate species, but I love them so much and they're definetley my favourite species.
- Faires - Ya, everybody knows what they are. Beings of complete light and goodness, they're completely dedicated to the survival of their species as a whole and will do anything to attain that goal.
- Monsters - Pretty much anything else including trolls, goblins, werewolves and anything you can think of.
Four major ones:
- The Herentei - mortal humans, live for about 80-100 years, but with shorter old age then normal humans, have basic magical ability, more than half of the world's population
- The Kíenarei - basically immortal humans, magic no stronger than mortals
- The Ketyrei - elves, basically a subgroup of the Kíenarei, more powerful, generally mad tall (6 ft is short in their view, average at around 7'6''), more beautiful, made to lead the rest, very few of those though, their eight Houses are the main source of conflict in my story
- The shapeshifters - suspicious folks, don't really appear much, live fore 150-200 years, hate elves, generally outlaws, and females don't have visible breasts unless they're breastfeeding or pregnant (humans are the only that have those, and I don't like that) making males and females look the same
Please tell me these words are pronounceable
I have like 15 :D
- Humans
- all of them have the ability to use a magic called bloodletting wherein they cut shapes into their bodies and the pattern of the blood allows them to manipulate space and time in different ways
- their leader is the main reason for conflict in the story - he manipulated his crown to constantly bloodlet, to allow him to live as long as the other peoples of the planet, so he ages ten times slower than a normal human
- are generally the terrifying opponents that seem unbeatable in any fight they're involved in
- Elves
- are born with one of nine types of elemental magic that uses their physical energy (like that you get from food and sleep) to operate
- their leader is also a source of issue in the first part of the story, as he ascended to power as a "chosen one" type person and then proceeded to mess everything up for his people
- for my main series in this world, the main characters are mostly elves
- Goblins
- these are the most technologically advanced and have integrated it into every part of their lives so they are like a futuristic kind of people?
- they have green skin and venomous fangs, thin/small fingers, and are generally heralded as the most intelligent of all
- their people can be extremely discriminatory within their race, and the princess is often looked down upon for being illegitimate because of her darker skin, despite tests showing she actually is legitimate, basically the parliament is just racist
- Fairies
- they look like humans in size and body shape, but their skin is shiny, almost metallic, and their freckles glitter
- also they have varying types of bug wings and antennae
- they're generally seen as the most democratic/open people
- Dwarves
- they're pretty short and stout, and their eyes can be any color of the rainbow
- really intuitive, and have a sort of steampunk level of technology, but aren't seen as particularly smart because people literally look down on them
- an issue between their people and the humans is what kicks off the start of the story and launches a war
- Sirens
- like deep water mermaids, based on leafy sea dragons, and bioluminescent
- really, /really/ isolated, since they're the only ones who can live that deep underwater
- for that reason, the other peoples don't realize they have more advanced tech than the Goblins and have ways to get to space
Now for the start of completely original ones without stolen names ;D
- Owleeri (OW - leere - ey)
- kinda like angels in that they're pretty much humans with wings
- however they also have the talons and eyes of owls, and can swivel their neck like them too
- are in a sort of unified government with the Kanah, Kamirin, and Catai
- have a chance for being born as a Sorcerer/ess/ex which means they can manipulate what the mind deems reality
- Kanah (KAY - nuh)
- they're like people but with fox-like ears, small noses, and the split lip thing, as well as digitigrade feet
- so basically furries without fur
- they're also pretty short, like at max they get to about 5' 6''
- also have a chance at being sorcerex
- Kamirin (Kuh - MEER - in)
- same as Kanah, but with wolfish ears and large noses, and they can be up to 6' 7''
- trade a lot with the dwarves, so they have like, flintlock pistols and stuff
- also chance of being sorcerexes
- Catai (KAY - tye)
- again, like Kanah and Kamirin, but like, with cats
- so a small nose and big cat ears, but they have REALLY varied heights
- have the biggest chance of being sorcerexes
- Ensca (En - SKAH)
- their lower half is like a horse, but like a satyr or faun instead of a centaur
- they're really scared of the ocean because their religion says it's where the world destroyers will come from
- the place they live has these plants whose essence can be used to heal people, so they base a lot of their life around that, including their religion
- Sharali (Shuh - RAH - lee)
- their arms are just bat wings, and they're kinda like vampires
- nocturnal
- they suffered a plague that killed like 95% of their population, and they are still struggling with it, even though they live in the same place as the Ensca, because it's forbidden to use the magic of the plants
- Drenn (Drehn)
- really tall, like, up to 10 feet
- kinda like a dragon human hybrid? if you can picture that
- they also have things kinda like gills but, like, temporary. like they can't go under forever, but still longer than people with regular lungs
- Mudskippers (Mud - skip - ers) (I guess that was kinda obvious but yknow just in case)
- amphibious people with webbed feet and legs like frogs
- they can jump really far and swim for up to like an hour underwater
- they are also all very muscley
- Mikrona (MY - crone - ah)
- shapeshifters that can change their appearance, but it takes a while and hurts a lot if they have to change their shape rather than color
- they're cousins of the Catai, and their true form looks like a mousier version of a Catai with a mane
- their culture allows parents to leave their children if they are unsatisfactory, leading to a group called the Forsaken Children (which have a story of their own)
Phew I have a lot I never really realized that until now. Hopefully all the pronunciations are easy to follow!
@@paxalicious Yours are so creative!
Really, it's only Humans, Dragons, and Wyverns. I haven't been able to hammer out the details of each species, though I have gotten the magic system down.
There are two types of magic, Animus and Bending. Animus deals with enchantments on objects or small creatures, and Bending is almost exactly like Bending from The Last Airbender.
Humans can be born with Animus magic, and can be taught Bending (though they don't get very far). Unless they are Animi, humans have extremely limited magic.
Dragons have access to both kinds of magic, and they are able to shape the world around them.
Wyverns have no magic whatsoever, but they make up for this with some strange evolutionary adaptations. Massive horns, club tails, breath weapons that aren't fire, etc.
Half-breeds are a thing, though they are mostly between humans and dragons. Though, "mostly" isn't the best word. There are only two that anyone has seen, and they're both male. They have magic because their at least one of their parents has it, and magic is passed on to the next generation. Their magic, however, is less limited than humans, but still more limited than dragons.
Here are my fantasy races.
- Humans, you know who they are. They have some of the most distinct culture around. Wercirians are modeled after the Scandinavian and Celtic people of real history. Eyugisi are modeled after the Greeks and Romans of history. Makinae are modeled after the Egyptian and Arabic people of history. Baaghi people are modeled after Indian and Sumerian people of history. Fiyujians are modeled after historical Chinese and Feudal Japanese. Last we have Vulgrucicans, which are an entirely original ethnicity.
- Elves are next, and there are multiple types, be it the high elves, who excel in diviniation, and have great wisdom, the urban elves, perfectly made for city life, the wood elves, their rugged opposites, or the dark elves, who excel in necromancy, and are very clever.
- Following them are dwarves. Cavern dwarves, are made for the dark and dank of subterranean life, urban dwarves, who can take absurd amounts of punishment and more than their share of drink, wood dwarves, who find joy in the forests, and greybeards, who excel in smithing and utility magic.
- Orc-kind are next, these have extreme mental and physical hardiness, and excel in guerilla warfare.
- Halfbreeds are next, and half-elves, half-orcs, half-dwarves, nephilim and cambion fall into this area. Basically if it's half human, half other, it works.
- Vampires have various supernatural powers such as supernatural senses, flight, and abnormal talent with necromancy and lightning magic, they survive on drinking blood, and are vulnerable to sunlight and fire.
- Otherkin have various mental powers, and can change into a hybrid animal form. They are weak to severe injuries. They have abnormal talent with psionic and physicality magics.
I'm writing a story that has, theoretically, a lot of races. the world is divided into a city/ country/ area that only has pure humans. and in the other are/ city/ country, are all the Ahumans/ Unnaturals/ inhumans/ mythicals…..I haven't figured out what I want to call them yet. :/ …… probably mythicals but anyway…..
the group of mythicals is a group of every kind of mythical creature you could think of, Fae, golem, gorgons, ghosts, immortals, etc. most of them aren't featured or discussed. my main characters are; two immortals, a ghost, and a thing I created called an/the Iden.
one of the immortals is a demi-god of sorts, he has powers to control time. the other has been cursed, and thats a whole long thing. my ghost character is fun and has a great sense of humor. and the Iden is something I created mixing Kitsunes and shapeshifters. basically they are shapeshifters but there is a group/cult of them in my world. they are kinda like a mix of elves and I gave them a sort of religion that resembles a mix of some of the extreme beliefs of Catholicism/ Amish beliefs/ Mormonism etc. I saw a post about how insufferable catholic elves would be and I tried to implement that because I liked the idea.
