forum Fantasy wars, how do they start??

Want to learn about what some motivations for war can be. Feel free to share your WIP ideas on this subject too.

My WIP includes a king who has been convinced by a religious order that he is the new messiah of the gods, so he starts a war to gain territory and reach full power, etc, etc. However, I am not too sure what the true motivation is. Like what is it that spurs him to start a war. I'm really not good at writing war stuff so could do with a lot of help :)

I think what could have motivated him to start a war is the idea that he would gain power from invading certain lands/countries. Especially since he has been convinced he’s a messiah, he would then assume that the Gods would support him in his endeavours. Power is something that not even a king can get enough of, it makes people greedy and corrupt.

@Coffee Hmm good point… I guess I'm trying to think of what goes through his mind to think his actions are justified. I guess he is a devot follower of the religion. Maybe I should do some research into some cults.
