I'm working on a Dragon Age Fanfic to hone some of my writing skills before working on my originals, just curious what others think. For anyone who has played the games, I'm starting with Origins, changing only a few things to begin with. I'm making all six origins have a Grey Warden, and then leading into the other games and extras. I have a male Dwarf Noble: Prince Rurik Aeducan, female Dwarf Commoner: Amber Brosca, female Human Mage: Amafrey Amell, female Human Noble: Natali Cousland, male City Elf: Kaiden Tabris, and my own twist a male Dalish Elf Mage: Varis Mahariel. I have paths laid out for each, including where they end up, the kinds of sides they're on for major events, and romances, all I have left to do is finish fleshing out the path ahead. Any ideas or comments would always be welcomed. Or if you want to know more, I'm always glad to talk (no one in my household holds the same interest as I do in this haha).
I'm doing something similar with Pathfinder, but I've taken a campaign that me and some friends ran and writing it down from my character's point of view in this world. Just make sure that you know everything about everything before you start writing (powers, places, enemies, etc.)
I don't have any experience playing the Dragon Age games. However, a few years back I played a Dragon Age RPG that forced me to learn about the lore of the world. I took to it like a fish to water and immediately began designing my own organization filled with original characters. It would actually be great material for a fanfiction as I've already worked out the backstory of every character to coincide with the canon timeline. If you wanted to take them and use them as fleshed out antagonists or supporting characters then I wouldn't be opposed with giving you more information. For now it is a group called Nénuphars Noir "Black Water Lilies" that operate in secret within the borders of Orlais. They are a mercenary company with members that are named after types of demons from the fade. They ignore most social conventions when recruiting and only take in the best of the best regardless of their pasts. As a result it has representatives from almost every race, class, and gender with their only similarities being both their legendary skill and isolation from the rest of Thedas for one reason or another. All of them fall within the rules of the game but are pretty broken even when alone. Working as a group they'd have the power to fell entire countries so I'd keep their role small. Still, if you find yourself in need of a badass with personality. I can provide.
@Lord_Hellstrande yeah, I know what you mean, I've been reading everything I can about the races and the lore. Which has actually gotten me more interested in this haha
@"The Enigmatic Wayfarer" that sounds really cool. I will definitely keep that in mind. Right now they probably wouldn't integrate in well, but when I start doing "Dragon Age: Inquisition", I think they would be an awesome edition. I love the idea to be honest. Have you thought about writing your own story involving them?
Other than their origin stories (Which are admittedly very long and sometimes interconnected.) I didn't write a whole lot about them. Originally they were just a result of me experimenting with the character creation system and they were intended to be used as characters in the role-playing game. However, they are max level (20) and so they were deemed unfit for new players. I created another subordinate organization under them with level 10 characters for that purpose. Yet it never actually happened as I'm pretty busy and don't have a lot of GM experience. However, I know enough about their personalities and abilities to write some good stories. Their concept is pretty close to being Thedas' version of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Pretty awesome still. Honestly I'm working on this story because I'm bad at character creation and development so I decided to take a plot that was partially fleshed out and use that to work on them.
