Mae wasn't far from Dartmis when she ran into a problem. At the bottom of a small mountain Lourduff sat the small town of Magegrove. Every night, Magegrove would be filled with bustling crowds, parties, and music. Mae didn't arrive there to see those usual activities, but something completely different and rather horrifying. Buildings were blackened, smoke rose from a few homes, and the streets were deserted. Small flames struggled to stay alive in the rain. Mae covered her mouth and proceeded into the town to search for civilians. There were none. Mae would assume the worst, but no remnants of bodies presented themselves. Mae trudged through the wet road, avoiding rats and birds feasting on scraps of food. She was supposed to get her own food and new robes here, but there were no shops that hadn't turned to ash. What in Avean's name happened here?
She was no more than a couple of miles away from the port, but she was hungry and tired. Sleep deprivation was no stranger to her, but she had never gone more than a few hours without food. She couldn't process what she saw or what she was doing. She slipped and crashed into things, more clumsily than usual. The journey had been harder than she expected, but she arrived at Dartmis an hour or two later, covered in mud and weak from hunger. Despite her problems, she was excited to be there. After all, this was her first mission, and she had been specially selected.
(The destruction of Mavegrove is because of our antagonist… if you'd like more information for the plot, let me know!) (edit: i'll tell y'all anyways because i just have a basic idea
i'm thinking that maybe the antagonist (a dragon of some sort) had gone there to steal an artifact hidden there - a spellbook — we could probably change the artifact, i dunno why i had a spellbook in mind but i feel like it doesn't really make sense for a dragon to steal)
(Am I just looking into it too deeply, or is there some careful word placement there?)
(ooh, there could be, but i don't think it was intentional. i can't remember, my minds not workng right now :p)
Ophira was exhausted by the time she'd reached the half-way point. Even with the cool breezes coming off lakes and other close bodies of water as Ophira traveled, she was sweating through her shirt. Only now was she realizing how severely she'd underestimated the heat as she stopped for a quick bath and lunch, the cool coming from the shade of buildings tempting her closer.
As she dismounted her horse and paid the stable boy, she noticed just how nice the area she'd stopped in was; the streets were paved with stone, well-kept buildings painted with bright colors and metal signs suspended over doors. The building she was headed to was probably one of the dullest on the street, but considering it was a rest stop she hadn't expected anything special. She made quick work of her lunch, spent about an hour looking through shops at clothing and jewelry, filled her flask, then got back on the road.

Mae had no idea where she was supposed to go. She had never been to Dartmis; she only had heard stories about the beautiful city. She wandered through the streets, asking random strangers adorned in silvers instead of gold for directions to the port. Mae was dressed in gold jewelry, so she stood out in the crowd. She hoped this was a good thing, maybe somebody would find her and tell her what to do next. She reached the port and gasped. Parked on the water were two large boats taller than the biggest building in Sieland. The small beach and a great boardwalk were busy with sailors, children, market stalls and more. Mae had no idea where to go next, so she found a log with ropes tied around it near one of the large ships and sat down, waiting.
By the time Ophira reached Dartmis, she wasn't sure if she'd be able to get off her horse and stand. Conveniently, the fact she was on a horse cleared her a path down the boardwalk, hooves tapping against the wood as Ophira looked for someone who caught her eye.
About 10 minutes down the long boardwalk, Ophira's eyes latched onto a girl adorned by golden jewelry. It was an awkward, painful, and slow process for Ophira to dismount and make her way over to the girl, stopping every few steps to stretch out her back and legs, but once she made it there, she sat right down on the ground, discomfort plain in her eyes.
"So, you also here cause of a letter about a little journey for a magical book?" Ophira asked, leaning back on her hands as she admired Mae's jewelry.
Tiergan landed only a few miles away from Dartmis, and after transforming back and resting for half an hour, he groaned and started running. His route took him through the river, which he jumped with only a few seconds of dragon form and two flaps of his wings; nevertheless, he was exhausted as he reached the outskirts of the town.
After receiving a coffee from a nearby cafe, he headed a few blocks to the boardwalk. Scouting around for suitable watch positions, he eventually chose to sit on a bench nearby in the shade of a building. It was surprisingly cool and damp, which was probably why nobody had claimed it yet. Tiergan sat quietly, sipping his coffee in small increments so as to not miss anyone walking past. He mainly kept his attention on the boats, trying to figure out which one they would go on.
After only a few minutes, he saw a pale woman on a horse dismount and go up to the golden adorned woman. He heard the first talk, and then got up from his seat, walking towards them. "Yes."
Ophira whipped her head around to face whoever she'd just heard talking, a sudden breeze whipping her hair into her face as she struggled to make out the stranger's figure.
"And who might you be?" she asked, moving her hair from her face as the breeze slowed.
Ophira kept her eyes trained on his, a bored look on her face as she awaited an answer. If there was one thing Ophira didn't like, it was not knowing who she'd be working with when she was recruited for these types of adventures. It brought along a sort of unbearable silence when nobody knew who anybody was, and the lack of conversation was almost enough to kill her.
Mae sighed in relief at the sight of the newcomers. She couldn’t wait any longer. She stood up, grabbing her pack. “Yeah!” She had replied to Ophira’s question. “I’m glad I’m not the only one who got that letter. I just wonder what we’re going to do now.”
(I’m busy right now, but I might add another character just to get this going, probably that General Heiko guy)
Ryin stumbled down from the boat, the guns clinking on either side of his belt. He scurried off the docks, just happy to be back on land again.
The General really hadn’t done much in the way of giving Ry directions. Neither had the orc woman. He had really no clue what he was doing, though Dartmis was a nice place. He wouldn’t mind sticking around for a few days before things got sorted.
His multicolor eyes wandered about, his large ears perking as he head mention of the mission. He confidently bounded over, surveying the others and holding himself high.
“So I see you are all here for the same reason as I,” he said, making his voice just a slight bit deeper and puffing out his chest. “Did any of you receive further instruction?”
Ace hides in the shadows. When the message came for her, she was already halfway to Dartmis. As the gunslinger made his way over to the group forming, she decided to join as well. She pads over quietly.
"No," she replies to him.
"Oh great, there's more of you," Ophira said, fake enthusiasm masking her disappointment. "This seems to be a large group considering we're after a book."
She stood up, brushing the back of her pants off. Upon further inspection of those surrounding her, Ophira wasn't surprised to find she appeared to be the tallest there, yet still felt the same pang of embarrassment she always had when being the tallest in a group.
"I'm Ophira, and I'd like to assume you're all chill people," she said, voice a bit louder than it had previously been now that she was standing like most everyone else involved.
"Names Ace, and no its not short for anything." Celia pops her head out from where she was napping in her knapsack.
"Grru?" The little dragon looks at the people.
"Oh, and this is Celia." Ace sweeps her hair to the side, and Celia goes to perch on her left shoulder.
(OOC: Celia is about the size a a hawk because she is still a baby, think Norbert(a) the baby dragon Hagrid had in HP)
(OOC: dragons name is Circe, not Celia my bad )
"We're obviously going on a boat; that's why we're here." Tiergan steps back and surveys the harbor, looking for some sign, but he couldn't find any.
He glanced at the others. "What're your guys' talents?" Then he realized he should probably be keeping an eye out on the crowd, so he started paying more attention to the people walking and sitting on the sidewalk.
"Trusty Swordswoman, minus the trusty part," Ophira said, eyeing Circe out of the corner of her eye.
She never much cared for pets, outside of dogs and horses. Where she came from, keeping dragons as pets was frowned upon.
"What exactly are you supposed to be? Hand-combat expert?" she asked, as nothing about Tiergan's appearance really stood out to her.
