"Oh wow, the thing isn't indestructible," Iris commented, slightly impressed. "Good job. Now you can actually eat the food in appropriate proportions."
"Oh wow, the thing isn't indestructible," Iris commented, slightly impressed. "Good job. Now you can actually eat the food in appropriate proportions."
"I'd literally rather starve," Azriel said, still not letting emotion into her voice. "Don't worry. Angels die slowly. The guards will just take me away. So… no rotting corpse to deal with, and I don't have to eat that literal trash."
A hint of a smirk touched Iris's features. This was an attitude she could get along with. "You have to eat, I digress, but…" she eyes locked onto the little crumbles in their pitiful pile. "That'll probably kill you just the same."
"I agree. It's probably poisoned. Not that I'd mind too terribly being poisoned, but…" she looked at the pitiful pile of crumbs. "that is just sad."
Slumping against the wall, Iris eyes wandered over everything. The other inmates were staying silent, and finally her eyes latched back onto Azriel. "You wouldn't mind being poisoned?"
"Yes, if you hadn't noticed the 'depressed' look I've been trying so hard to put together, I'll just say it out loud: they took my phoenix. I don't know what happened to her. She's probably dead, or…" she shook her head as if to clear it. "We were pretty close, so… no, I wouldn't mind it terribly. Don't worry, though. I'm not wallowing in self-pity. I just feel bad for the poor saps who have to clean up my remains."
"What was her name?" Iris probed, gently, or at least the closest to gentle Iris could get. "But isn't there the chance she survived? They can rebirth, right?"
"Her name was Ahyin, and I don't know. They could just kill her again if she does rebirth," Azriel said hopelessly. She paused. "D'you think the bread is actually poisoned? Maybe I should check to find out - "
"Maybe you should confirm whether or not your phoenix is dead before making reckless decisions," Iris reasoned. Of course, it was slightly haughtily phrased, but that's just Iris. "And she could just rebirth if they killed her."
Azriel rolled her eyes. "I appreciate the… what is that, comfort? But I'd prefer to wallow in my sorrows." She focused on the ceiling, feeling the dread in her chest hammering away at what felt like her soul. Ah, well, let's find out about that bread, she thought, popping a piece in her mouth. She immediately started gagging. The bread was the most disgusting thing she had ever tasted. "What is that made of? Tortured souls?"
(ngl I'm just really enjoying this exchange)
Iris could only gape. "Wha- why- who-" she was at a complete loss for words. Finally after composing herself, Iris questioned, "What prompted you to put that in your mouth? I'm tempted to gag, myself, watching that unfold!"
"The lack of a desire to live," Azriel responded… despondently. She didn't even bother to spit it out, just looked at the ceiling and wished for the sweet release of death.
"Oh my fucking god and here I was thinking you weren't delusional," Iris exclaimed, a slight Eltin accent brushing against the Brachish in her rage. "Tortured souls, my ice, I fixed your wing and this is how you repay me?"
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that ice," Azriel said, reaching for the ice and putting that in her mouth as well. "That… is very cold. I think my brain has entered the eternal winter."
(By the way, if a phoenix's angel dies, the phoenix dies forever…the system is weird..there was a war and nobody trusted anyone but I digress)
The girl's gone mad, Iris furiously thought to herself. "Your observational skills could match those of Einstein. Ice is cold, bless my magic, who would've thought?"
"I agree. I always knew I was going to grow up to be a genius. And now, at what is probably my finest hour, we discover my true skill. Also my brain feels like an elephant herd just decided to have a party. Why does your ice punish me so?" Azriel said blankly, still staring up at the ceiling. I just need to not die, but I can come close.
Arabella tapped her fingers loudly against the wall once more. She was tired of listening to a conversation she couldn’t understand. “I couldn’t help but notice the bread might be edible. Could I get pointers on how to eat it without dying?”
"My ice punishes you? My ice punishes you?" Iris was on the brink of sanity, although looking at Azriel, she really desperately did not long to cross that brink. "The only thing I would do with my ice would be to lock your jaw in place and shut you up."
She fired a glare at Arabella. "Do not eat the thing. It makes you delusional," she claimed in Medein.
(imma have to go soon. I must sleep and it is 4 am where I am soooo….)
(No worries)
“thank you for the warning, however I do not want to starve.” Bella snatched a pebble of the so called ”bread” and plopped it in her mouth.
"How rude," Azriel sniffed. "I have the inherent brilliance of Einstein, and this is what I get? Rude. So rude."
Dramatically rubbing her temples, Iris mumbled in Eltin, "We're all gonna be dead and it's going to be the fucking bread's fault." Apparently thoroughly exhausted, she conjured another ice cube and pressed it against Azriel before heading to the corner. Taking up her cloak and draping it over her body, she requested in both Medein and Brachish, "Wake me up if there's any of you still alive by the end of tonight."
(I also have to go…)
