"How am I supposed to know where to find a minor god?" she asked. Up ahead, there was a tunnel that seemed to lead to an underground road. It was completely dark and she could see absolutely nothing on the inside, but she figured that might be a good way to cut some of the monsters off.
She accelerated to full speed, plunging into the dark hole and listening to the monsters roars echo of the walls. Their wails got softer and softer as she drove deeper into the tunnel, and she felt a small sense of relief. Of course, she wouldn't say so out loud. That never ended well.
They drove down, deeper and deeper until the last monster was gone and Addy was becoming nervous that the tunnel wouldn't end. Shouldn't they start curving up soon? She cautiously slowed down, deciding they if they weren't being chased, maybe they could wait and turn around, taking a different road once above ground. Stopping the van, she slowly stepped out. Instantly a chill rattled her spine and her stomach did flips worthy of olympic medals. The tunnel didn't look like a tunnel at all… there were passages all over the place.
"Oh gods," she whispered. "We're in the labyrinth."
Lewis unbuckled and stepped out too.
"Well… to put it simply, this sucks," he murmured.
He found his finger tracing the metal of his amulet again, as he stood with his back pressed up against the van.
"Can't go out the way we came in, either," he said, "Entrance probably closed off or warped or something. I can't see any daylight behind us."
After a moment, he took a breath and asked, "Should we keep driving or go on foot?"
Zyra got out of the van, cursing under her breath as she looked around. "We should probably drive, it'd act like protection."
Addy leaned in and tried to crank the car again, but to no avail. The joy ride had pretty much screwed it.
"Great." she said, smacking the steering wheel. "All of us together, walking through the labyrinth with no scent enchantment."
Before Mike could protest, Angel unbuckled him and grabbed his hand, dragging him out of the car. "C'mon, let's go!" She was kind of excited (but also scared) about being in THE Labyrinth. So excited that when they stopped next to the group, she didn't realize she was still holding his hand.
Anna, leaping from the backpack, flicked her tail in amusement.
Daisy crawled out of the van, her head hurting from where she’d it it against the side of the van in the chaos. She had heard the conversation about the labyrinth, and she was actually scared, though she wouldn’t admit it. She glared at the others. “So your plan is to wander through the labyrinth blindly? That’s just asking for trouble,” Daisy complained.
"Yeah, I'm not sure that idea sits well with me either," Lewis agreed, "but we can't stay here like sitting ducks. That's just asking for trouble as well. He made sure he had all of his things gathered before taking out his notebook and scribbling down a few things.
"We should really think about where we're going. What we're not gonna do is just go where the wind takes us."
"You know this is the labyrinth, right? You can't make plans in here. It may not be as evil as it once was, but it's still uncontrollable." Addy argued, eyeing her companions warily. "Our only choice is to wing it. We have to find a way out, whether it be an opening to Italy, or Antarctica."
"Uncontrollable, but we can make a travel formation," Lewis said, "There are little things we can do. It's not hopeless. But we do need to use more decision making than 'Wow, there's a fork in the road! Guess it's time to pick the way that 'feels' right!' Ya know? We charge through there without thinking, we get brutally killed or hopelessly lost."
He scanned over the group of demigods, jotted a few more notes down, and put his writing hand on his chin.
"I'm working out a formation as we speak, so we're patrolling and protected optimally."
Listening to Addy and Lewis argue was making Angel nervous. She never really liked when friends fought. At least, she hoped they could all be friends. She subconsciously held Mike's hand tighter and shuffled her feet, Anna sitting beside her and curling her tail around her paws.
Michael sighed. "Long-ranged fighters in the middle, melee around them. I'll watch the back, somebody else do the same for the front. Standard formation."
Lewis let out an angry huff.
“This is the Labyrinth, not a typical travel situation. Look, just fall into this formation I have here, and we should be better-prepared.”
He rubbed the back of his head.
“This is such a waste of time. I wish you guys would listen to me, y’ know, since strategy is actually something I’m good at. But I don’t even know how to convince you.”
"Ah, yes, the son of Hecate is better at strategy than the son of Athena. Classic. We need to keep an eye out for any traps at all. We have no way of going back the way we came. Best thing to do is forge on ahead and get out of this place. What's your formation?"
"Um, we could use a buddy system. Addy and Zyra, Daisy and Lewis, Michael and me." Angel suggested. She figured if everyone stayed close to their partner, they could keep each other safe.
"We're sticking together," Addy grunted, stepping into the middle of the circle they had formed while talking. "Being in a formation is fine, but the labyrinth will probably break us apart at some point. We just need to get moving, now." her voice held a twinge of fear, because in the distance, she thought she heard the roars of hungry monsters.
Lewis scoffed.
“They had me pinned for a son of Athena before I was claimed. Athena’s kids aren’t the only ones who can be clever… Aaaanyway, here it is,” he said, giving a quick overview of the formation, “It takes weaponry into account a little, but also what I know of everyone’s strengths and weaknesses, so should anything approach suddenly, we’ll be able to cover each other. And the most attentive individuals are around the edges so we can keep watch better.”
He quickly started showing them his suggestions so they could get moving on soon.
"You do not know all the weaknesses and strengths of every single person here," Michael said.
“I said what I know of your strengths and weaknesses. Stop putting words in my mouth, o master strategist,” Lewis hissed, “I’m sorry all you can come up with is a most basic battle formation, but keeping this argument up isn’t going to help anyone.”
He shoved his notebook into his bag, pushing his glasses back up the bridge of his nose.
(He just has one in theory in the rp, we can decide that as a group by figuring out what moves the rp along better)
Addy groaned and pushed in between the boys. "Stop fighting, and get in formation." she ordered. The roars were getting closer. Addy took the lead with Zyra, while Daisy, Lewis and Angel watched the middle and sides. Michael took the back.
Angel let go of Mike's hand as they got in formation. She was glad Addy stepped in to stop the fighting, seeing as she was never really one to speak up in situations like that.
Anna padded after the girl, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious.
Lewis took up his spot in the middle, still seething. He shifted his things so he had his hand crossbow ready to go, but also so that his blade would be easy to grab, should he need it. As they started, his eyes steadily grew more accustomed to the darkness, and he could see a good deal of the way ahead. He thought he saw shadows moving along a wall very far ahead. He quietly alerted the others. They’d probably be able to sneak by, but the others couldn’t sneak by what they didn’t know was there.
Zyra was a bit surprised when Addy took the lead with her, but didn't mind. "Jesus christ, why did you have to grab me?" She muttered under her breath as she looked around.
