Alex nodded and headed to the store, freezing for a moment as he put the hat on her head before relaxing. "Does it now?" She asked with a miniscule smile, pulling the hat off her head and placing it on his head before slipping into one of the changing rooms, "Tell me how much I blend in."
The hat was ridiculously small on his head, so he went back to the rack and picked one his size. It was matte black and fit well with the rest of his clothing.
"You almost done in there?" he asked, walking back over to the changing area and standing beside the door.
"Yeah, finished right now," She said, opening the door and showing him her new outfit. The shirt's sleeves were a fraction too long and she had rolled them up, the tad lighter blue of the shirt going quite well with the pants slightly darker color, "How do I look? Also..I like your hat."
"Damn right you do," he said with a grin, then returned his attention to her. "You look good. You'll fit in fine."
Alex couldn't hide a ghost of a smile, rolling her eyes, "It matches your outfit, Mr. Isaac." With a nod, she disappeared back into the changing room and closed the door, opening it again when she was changed back into her uniform, "Well, if I blend in, then I think we can buy these and be done."
He walked over to the cashier and set his hat on the counter, sliding his hand into his back pocket and pulling out his wallet. "Set the stuff next to the hat," Slate said, slipping a clump of 20 dollar bills.
She nodded, noting to pay him back if she found muggle money as she set down the clothes. Alex busied herself by looking around the store as she waited for Slate to pay.
It took barely a minute for the exchange to take place. He tossed her the newly bought clothes. "Go ahead and put 'em on."
"Go back any put them on in the changing room?" She looked at the clothes in her arms and then at him, clearly saying she wasn't going to change with people watching.
"Unless you're brave enough to strip down in the middle of a thrift shop, yes." He rolled his eyes. "I thought the 'Go to the changing room' part was implied."
Alex rolled her eyes and headed off without another word, coming back several minutes with her uniform in hand and her new clothes on, "There, now let's get going Mr. Isaac."
He gave the cashier a nod before walking outside, putting a hand on his hat to keep it from flying away in the strong wind.
"It shouldn't be windy today," he said with a frown.
She frowned as well, hand drifting to her wand in instinct. This wasn't right, something was off and she had a gut feeling about it. "No, it shouldn't…let's get to the car. Before anything bad happens and I have to save your life again."
"Last time that I checked, I was the one who pulled the trigger," he said with a grim grin, opening up the driver's side door and hopping inside.
"But had I not distracted him, you would be dead somewhere by now," She replied, getting into the passenger's seat and putting her uniform in a pile on the floor of the truck. Automatically, she clicked her seatbelt in and pulled her wand out, keeping it in her hand on her lap.
He shrugged. "Equal effort, then."
The truck shuttered to life and he couldn't have gotten out of the parking lot quicker.
"We're gonna have to share a motel room," he told her. "I have a limited amount of cash."
Alex nodded, looking out the window carefully for anything out of the ordinary, "I'm fine with that, I'll be sure to compensate you for the money you spend when I get back to the ministry."
Slate nodded, letting the conversation drop. It took barely 5 minutes to get to the motel, which was as shitty as ne would've imagined.
"Watch for broken glass," he said as he got out of the truck.
(Hehehe, deja-vu)
She nodded, looking down at the ground and checking carefully as she got out of the car. Closing the door behind herself she looked at the motel, forcing herself not to comment on the appearance.
"Piece of shit, huh?" he asked her, locking the car door and putting a hand on his hat once again. "Doubt they'd expect us here."
"It's…..rustic," She said eventually, nodding, "This is a fairly good place to lay low though. I don't think they would inspect a place like this." That statement was true, though she didn't know for how long it would prove true.
"It's just for the night," he said, opening the door for her when they got close. "I still don't know why you didn;t keep the cowboy hat on."
Alex cracked a tiny smile and shrugged, "It didn't look good on me, plus it was just more money you would have to pay." She nodded her head in thanks and walked in, wand held at the ready so she could make sure the place was clear and safe to stay in.
"Money isn't the issue with those prices, trus' me," he said, stepping in after her. The place was about as shitty as the outside, with waterstains on the old green carpet, peeling wallpaper, and an old lady with a bitter face sitting behind the receptionist counter.
"Wha' do you want?" the lady asked, turning her beedy black eyes onto the duo.
"A room please," Alex said, resting her arms against the reception desk and looking around. This place really was shit, but at least places like this weren't exactly going to catch anyone's eye if they were looking for Slate and herself.
