“Kotetsu, Izumo.” Naoki nodded in acknowledgement at the two chunin guarding the gate, stopping just outside their booth to say hello.

“Ah, hey Naoki. Off on another mission already, are you?” Kotetsu asked, leaning forward with interest the way he did every time someone walked past. His partner rolled his eyes.

“No, Kotetsu, he walked all the way out here just to say hi to little old us.”

Kotetsu huffed. “Someone’s grumpy today.”

Naoki smiled at the antis of the two, shaking his head slightly in amusement. “If it makes you feel any better, Izumo, I could’ve waited somewhere else for my team to show,” he offered.

The chunin perked up with interest at that, laughing at his friend’s surprised expression.

“You’re taking the brats with you?” Kotetsu asked, not unkindly.

Naoki tilted his head questioningly. “What’s so surprising about that?”

The two chunin hesitated, glancing at each other as if reading the other’s mind. Izumo cleared his throat.

“Well, it’s odd to see you in a team of four, is all.”

Naoki blinked. “Is that so?” He paused, contemplating his position as both a special jounin and anbu member. It was true he did a lot of solo work between the two, even if the chunin in front of him were unaware of his duties as an anbu. “I suppose I do fit the whole ‘lone wolf’ stereotype, don’t I?” he allowed, a tad of amusement in his voice to ease the apprehension he was beginning to sense in the two chunin.

Kotetsu slumped a little in relief, his worries that they’d offended their superior easing. Similarly, Izumo’s shoulders relaxed as he let out a sigh.

Kotetsu opened his mouth to say something, but the three paused at the sound of footsteps approaching.

“I wager that’s them, now,” Izumo commented, motioning for his friend to sit down with him so they were less in the way.

Naoki gave them a small smile before turning to meet his team, stepping out from under the overhang of the booth so he’d be spotted more easily in the darkness of the evening.

Benjiro snickered before stopping in front of their sensei's feet. He glared analyzing him, he then gave a soft smile. He turned around taking a step forward, turning around once more. "Are you Naoki-sensei? If you are it's nice to meet you! I'm Benjiro Inuzuka, but you can call me Ben." Benjiro held out his hand.

The jonin inclined his head, eyes watching with amusement as he was scrutinized. This one’s rather observant, it seems, he noted. He’d read the files on and observed each of his new students at varying points in the past, but truly grasping their personalities and cooperative abilities would take time. Starting with a mission like this one… I know I said I trust Lady Tsunade, but I can't help but wonder what she's thinking.

“I am,” he answered, meeting Ben’s hand with his own. After a brief shake, he paused. “Likewise. So tell me, Ben—are you ready for your first B-Rank mission?” Better get a feel for their confidence… Might come in handy.

“You bet! I was born ready. My papa told me that their really cool and fun! He also said that their are risks of life, but I won’t let that happen.” His eyes sparkled as he jumped closer to Naoki. Benjiro has preparing and training all his life for this moment.

Naoki chuckled, hiding his slight discomfort behind a smile. "Is that so?" he responded contemplatively, crossing his arms and giving the genin another glance over. Saying something like that… He's not been on many difficult missions before. Meaning he must be pretty skilled to have been assigned this one, despite his painful lack of experience. "As much as you may think you can control the outcome of the mission, just remember that some things are beyond us," he reminded lightly. "Which is why we're in a team of four, and why you have me as leader."

He paused, then looked past Benjiro. "Speaking of which, you don't happen to know where the others are? They're cutting it pretty close—we'll need to leave when the sun sets."

Miko groaned as she rolled off her bed and fell to the floor then realized she was late so she jumped to her feet and dressed quickly then ran to meet up with her group

"If anything I thought they would get here before me. I always help out people before going places," he hummed tapping his foot eager to get going.

Naoki cocked his head to the side suddenly, frowning a little. A tree, huh? He opened his mouth to say something to Ben, but cut himself off when he saw Miko approaching them. “Miko Idenshi, I take it,” he commented politely when she was close enough, nodding his head in greeting.

“Alright then,” he began, shifting his weight and flinging his hand up to eye level in time to catch the pebble hurtling towards his face. “Now that we’re all here, why don’t we act like it?” He cast a pointed look at the nearest tree, keeping the judgemental gaze pinpointed on the third genin until she’d flopped down from her perch.

“How’d you know I was there?” she asked suspiciously, brushing stray leaves off of her leggings and returning her slingshot to the pouch at her hip. “I suppressed my chakra so you wouldn’t sense me.”

Naoki gave a tight-lipped smile, returning her pebble to her with a light toss. “You're not the only sensory ninja, Fukuro Suzuki,” was all the answer he gave, much to her frustration. “Now, are the three of you ready? I want to do a quick inventory check before we go.”

Fukuro shoved the pebble in the pouch with her slingshot, pouting and walking over to join the other two genin. She gave a two-fingered wave to her comrades, then crossed her arms grumpily. “So you want us to show you what we’ve brought?”

“Exactly.”

"Well, I don't usually bring anything before of my senses, but when when I'm weak I used my swords." Benjiro took his swords and put them in my hands. "My real dad, not papa crafted these before he died."

Fukuro uncrossed her arms and unclasped her bag, wordlessly handing it to Naoki with a challenging glare.

The jonin took it neutrally, ignoring Fukuro’s apparently sour mood. “Slingshot, pebbles, kunai, shuriken, paper bombs, flash bombs, smoke bombs,” he listed. “Pretty standard stuff. What about you, Miko?”

He handed the pouch back to Fukuro, resisting the urge to roll his eyes when she snatched it with more force than necessary.

Miko handed over three kunai and a hand full of smoke bombs not that she needed them "Other than that my main chakra helps with cloaking and stealth

Naoki nodded, inspecting the gear briefly before handing it back to Miko. "Now that that's settled…" he trailed off, then looked back to Kotetsu and Izumo's booth. Gesturing with a tilt of his head for the genin to follow, he walked back to the two chunin and rapped his knuckles on the counter. "You guys still have the provisions I dropped off earlier, right?"

Kotetsu blinked, then scratched the back of his neck. "Ah, yeah. Forgot about those for a while, didn't we?"

Izumo rolled his eyes good-naturedly at his friend, then turned to face Naoki with a smile, a bag already in hand.

The jonin returned the smile. "Thanks." He tossed it to Fukuro, who caught it with a puzzled look on her face.

“What’s this?” she asked skeptically, watching as he took two more bags from Izumo and passed them to Benjiro and Miko.

Naoki didn’t respond until he’d grabbed his own backpack from an amused looking Kotetsu who, with a slight glare from Naoki, raised his hands in surrender and sat back down next to Izumo.

“Extra provisions. I’ll explain along the way, but it’s time we set out,” he responded, sparing a glance at the two chunin. “Thanks for your help, Izumo, Kotetsu.”

They nodded, the latter leaning back in his seat and crossing his arms. “Good luck on your mission!”

Fukuro bowed hasilty at the guards, then jogged a few feet to catch up to Naoki, who was already walking towards the gate.

“Now’s your chance,” he called over his shoulder, prompting the other genin to follow. “Ask me any questions you have. After all, you should already be familiar with everyone in this squad but me.”

"Are you in a relationship because you look pretty lonely?" Benjiro blurted, putting his hands behind his head. "You smell pretty lonely too. Aside from that what are the weapons you use?"

Deleted user

Naoki paused, taken off guard by the nature of Ben’s first question. “I’m really not,” he answered, eyes fixed straight ahead as they walked. I smell lonely, huh? First time I’m hearing of it.

Fukuro snickered, struggling to keep a straight face. “Really not in a relationship or really not lonely?” she asked.

“Both.” Naoki cleared his throat. “As for weapons, I primarily use a tanto.” As a demonstration, he reached for the hilt of the sword attached to his back and unsheathed it, revealing it to be a little less than a foot in length. He resheathed it after a moment, shooting Ben a small smile.

Fukuro chose that moment to speak up. “What I want to know is, how many jutsu do you know?”

The jonin laughed a little at that one. “Hmm. More than one, if that helps.”

“It doesn’t,” she complained, readjusting her pack irritably.

Miko looked at the others nani her confusion may have been apparent but she just dealt with it as she walked with her team of Genin

"How about what you do for fun? I know this a mission, but we still need to get to know each other right? So?" Benjiro raised an eyebrow.

Miko looked at the boy "A-are you talking to me?" she had been slightly zoned out and focused on her heartbeat that seemed to be faster than regular

Fukuro glanced at Miko with concern, although she did her best to keep it hidden behind a thoughtful frown. Deciding to answer Ben’s question herself, she closed her eyes and mirrored his arms-behind-the head stance. “Personally, I like painting,” she offered, letting the pose drop and tilting her head back to stare at the sky.

Naoki hummed. “I suppose I read a lot in my free time,” he answered. “Although I’m not sure that’ll fit your definition of fun, Ben.” Sensing Miko’s anxiety, his steps began to slow.

“This is probably far enough.” He stopped abruptly and turned around, halting Fukuro with a hand on the top of her head, seeing as she was more keen on looking at the sky than where she was going.

She scowled and batted his hand away, her face reddening out of embarrassment. “I can walk on my own, thanks!” she said defensively.

Naoki paid her no mind. “It’s time I tell you what this mission is, and why you’ll be needing those.”

He let his pack slip from his shoulder to the crook of his elbow to clarify what he was talking about.

Fukuro’s eyes lightened with excitement, although it was quickly replaced by a calmer, carefully calculated look of disinterest. “No more info about yourself?” she asked in faux disappointment, reaching for her own bag.

Naoki sighed, then cleared his throat. “My name is Naoki Yakushi. I’m nineteen, a jounin, and I do a lot of solo missions. I like reading and long walks on the beach, and right now I’m about to tell you the details of what’s probably your biggest mission yet—so pay attention. That cover it?”

The platinum-haired genin shrugged.

“Inside your bags you’ll find a few things. A winter cloak, boots and food pills, to name a few. We’re travelling to the Land of Iron, so you may understand why these are necessary,” he explained, thinking back on the times he’d been caught in the snowy wasteland between settlements.

“Now, this mission will be stealth oriented,” he continued, setting his bag on the ground at his feet and pulling a folded up map out of one of the side pockets. “Our job is to investigate a string of disappearances along the eastern border of the Land of Iron—” He indicated where with a tap of the location on the map. “—while remaining undercover, which is why we’ll be travelling primarily at night. As you may or may not know, the Land of Iron is home to the samurai, which means we can't afford to be recognized as ninja. Understood?”

He looked to each of the genin with a raised eyebrow, maintaining eye contact until he was sure the importance had been conveyed properly. “Any questions?”

Naoki tilted his head minutely, noting the emotion in her eyes. After a moment of contemplation, he nodded at her. “What is it?”

@V01DtheFae group

"D-did a women named Mioshi Idenshi disappeared there?" Miko looked down as she asked the question her voice devoid of all the emotion she had felt running through her mind

The jonin thought back to the document he’d received, running through the names in his head. “There was no mention of the name in the briefing, but the lists were incomplete. When was this?” he asked.

Naoki frowned. “Although I’m reluctant to tell you, it is a possibility,” he admitted. “Most of the disappearances have taken place in the last month or so, but that’s not to say whoever is behind them didn’t start earlier…Miko?” He waved a hand, making sure she was paying attention.

“Is this…Mioshi your mother?” Fukuro wondered.
