Rantaro sighed softly. It seemed like Kaito was pretty stubborn when it came to things like this, which was only concerning, given the circumstances of the situation. He needed to know that it wasn't healthy to bottle up emotions like he was, especially when they were as strong as his were.
"Kaito, that's just ridiculous… Everyone has their weaknesses, and it's okay to cry…" he whispered softly. "Please, it's better to express how you feel…"
Kaito only held closer to rantato “ I can't okay.,”
Rantaro sighed softly again as he wondered how Kaito could even be so stubborn. He was going through so much, and yet, he completely refused to express any form of emotion about the matter. That was far from just being stubborn; it was a downright refusal to acknowledge his own emotions.
"Kaito, please… You can express your emotions here…" he assured him. "No one will judge… It's better to let it all out, anyway…"
“People always judge, but.. I'm fine, I'll get over it..”
Rantaro was beginning to grow a bit frustrated at Kaito's stubbornness here, especially as it turned into a complete refusal to acknowledge his emotions due to his concerns that people would see him as weak if he was to express them. Even though he was noticeably frustrated with the other by that point, he was still going to help him out. He needed to let him know that expressing his emotions was okay before he kept them bottled up until he inevitably broke down,
"Kaito, no one is here to judge. It's going to be alright. Please, just express how you feel…" he requested softly. "Please… It's better if you do…"
Kaito gave a soft sob, his chest heaving as he started to break down
Rantaro held Kaito close as he noticed that the other was sobbing. He couldn't help but rub his back as he tried to provide him with more comfort. He knew that he was going through a lot, and he wanted to make things easier for him. That was all that he intended on doing, too.
"It's alright… Just let it out…" he whispered softly. "It's all gonna be alright…"
“No, it's not, I shot my best friend..” he sobbed out
Rantaro sighed softly at the comment. While it was the truth, it was also an accident, something that wasn't intended to happen. On a night as dark as that one, it was only understandable that he mistook Shuich for Kokichi as well, and that was what led to the current events. It wasn't like he would've shot Shuichi if he knew that it was him.
"You didn't know it was him. You couldn't have known…" he sighed. "It was nothing more than an accident. I'm sure that Shuichi isn't mad at you…"
“You don't know that… What if he doesn't want to be my partner anymore!?”
Rantaro sighed softly. From what he knew about Shuichi, he seemed to be a pretty understanding and loyal person, so he didn't think that he would hate Kaito for what he had done. He would likely understand that the situation was an accident and that his best friend wouldn't have ever wanted to shoot him.
"I doubt that he'd hate you after this," he assured softly. "I think he'll understand that you never meant this. I think he'll still want to work with you."
“He shouldn't forgive me.. I don't deserve it..”
Rantaro shook his head at the comment. He didn't think that what Kaito had done was unforgivable since it wasn't intentional. He was trying to do his job, but due to mistakenly thinking that Shuichi was Kokichi, he fired at the wrong person. It was nothing more than an accident, and while it could have been avoided, his intentions were to do what he was asked, not to harm his best friend.
"But you didn't mean to shoot him. I'm sure that he'll understand how this happened. It's alright…" he whispered softly. "Really, he's not gonna be mad. He'll understand this… You deserve forgiveness because you never meant to hurt him…"
Kaito shook his head, still sobbing softly
Rantaro continued to hold Kaito close to him as this continued. It seemed like he wouldn't listen to him unless he heard Shuichi say that he wasn't upset about everything that was going on. Until then, he would just have to try to comfort him.
"Kaito…it's all gonna be fine… I'm sure it'll be proven when Shuichi wakes up…"
“Speaking of which,” the doctor said, “ he is awake,”
Rantaro nodded in response to the statement before going to Shuichi's room with Kaito. Maybe he could finally prove that Shuichi wouldn't be angry with him over the entire incident. As long as Shuichi was willing to talk to them, then things would be fine.
Shuichi looked up at Kaito once he heard his voice. He couldn't help but give him a small but reassuring smile as he saw him, hoping that he would know that he wasn't angry with him. He was still pretty weak, and he had only then woken up, but he was sure that he would be alright.
"Kai…it's not…your fault…" he told him after a moment. "I-I'm not mad…"
“Your not?” he asked softly
Shuichi nodded in response to the question. He understood that Kaito was only trying to do his job and hadn't known that it was him until after everything happened. He couldn't be angry with him for the mistake, even if it could have easily cost him his life.
"Of course I'm not…" he responded. "It's alright…"
Kaito started to cry again “I'm so sorry.” he said before hugging his partner
Shuichi gently hugged Kaito back, but he shook his head at the apology. It hurt him to see his best friend crying like he was, but he knew why he was upset. The entire situation had been an absolute mess, but it seemed like it was over. All that was really left was for Shuichi to recover from it all. Thankfully, the wound hadn't been close to fatal, although it would be a little while before he could return to work.
"It's alright, Kai… Really…"
“ Okay..” he said softly (time for drama
Kokichi had been in the window when he saw it happen, his partner being kissed by his best friend “ shu..” he whispered
