Kaite noticed a newcomer walk in, and he paused for a minute. Is he okay? He thought, worriedly as a few people gave him a glare as he jumped, nearly dropping a mug before catching it with a releived sigh.
That was close. Anyway, should I go check on him, or no? He was stuck, thinking for a minute before huffing, getting the courage to walk toward him.
"H-Hello, sir." His voice cracked and he mentally hit himself in the face with a frying pan before clearing his throat.
"Are you a-alright?" His voice went to normal, as he gave a nervous smile.
“Huh-whah? Oh, sorry… I was just thinking, about… things.” he took a sip of his coffee, now cold. “Bleugh. This was hot just a few seconds ago! Unless I stopped paying attention again. Anyways, I now remember why I hate coffee. Do you have any tea? Earl Grey, or Darjeeling, either is fine. With a splash of milk if it’s the Earl.” he said, not fully paying attention to his surroundings.
Kaite nodded. "O-Of course, sir." He stuttered. He was always awkward when it comes to people, but not this awkward. He walked over to the machine, making Earl Grey tea, before finsihing it up and adding a little bit of milk to it, and walking back to the man, handing him the tea. "Is there something troubling you sir? You seem rather… upset." He mutters, tilting his head in curiosity as he was a bit worried, but really feeling horrible for bugging into someones buisness.
“My best friend in the universe left me and I’m forced to do the busy work of some idiots in funny hats that stuffed their silly-hatted brains inside my ship’s computer for reasons too complicated to explain, so I won’t.” he griped. “Why did we have to go to war in the first place? That timeline could have easily been avoided. But noooo, we have to fight the Iridians, they said, the fate of all time and space depends on it they said. And then the resurrect a mass murdered whose presence only causes disaster and- sorry, is this too much for your little human brain?” the Doctor asked, accepting the tea.
Kaite paused, a little confused but tried to understand, before getting slightly offended. "No sir- Just- You speak a bit quickly- Could you translate smart-to-dumb please?" He asked with a chuckle, sitting down across from him.
“It’s. Complicated. I don’t have time to waste, talking to you. I’m trying to figure out what horrors will befall the earth again. First it was these horrible lava-worms, and now? I don’t know what it is but it better come quickly or I-“ the Doctor was cut off by a mysterious rumbling, and then a howling noise. Several howling noises.
The cafe was a side-of-the-road place, with very few people staying there. But once the few remaining patrons heard the noise, havoc was wreaked. People were scrambling to the door, but the Doctor did his best to block them.
“Everyone, whatever is out there is probably very dangerous, so stay calm. I don’t think it would be wise to investigate now.” he said.
Kaite kept a calm look on his face, before gasping. "Wait– I know this is really soon to ask but do you think I could help you? it's better than being cooped-up in a cafe 24/7." He admits, nervously scratching the back of his neck with a small chuckle.
“Good! Finally, a human who takes initiative! Lock all entrances to the place, and see if there’s anything we can use to block off the main doors, they don’t look sturdy.” the Doctor said, a sudden fire in his eyes. His… companion was right, he really did need this.
Kaite's face lit up before he nodded. "Yes sir!" He said, rushing to the entrance, and locking it in, before pulling abotu 12 chairs to the door, locking the exit and doing the same, before shutting the blinds.
He rushed back and fourth, putting the people behind the counter, and motioning them to stay as he walked back to the man. "Okay, I did it." He said, sighing.
“Thank you! Now, quickly, before anyone dies, please introduce yourselves. I want to keep track.” the Doctor said. A woman raised her hand. “Ah, Nari’s the name. And who might you be, telling us all what to do?”
Kaite paused, as the woman just kept staring at the two.
"W-We-Well, m-my names Kaite." He muttered, shyly and awkwardly. UGH! What is going on with me? He asked himself, now embarrassed.
Three other patrons listed their names (Callie, Angus, and Jaws) before the Doctor answered the woman’s question. “Well, I’m the Doctor, you see.” he said simply, as a sort of non-answer.
Kaite sighed, adjusting his glasses before sitting on a stool, spinning over and over like a idiot. "Weeeee-" He muttered, sighing.
A hand slapped the window. Bloodstains were left from whatever it had previously mauled, and you could practically hear the screams left over from the poor person who’d been murdered. You could even see the remains of the body outside.
Kaite held in a yelp, falling off the stool. "H-Huh?"
“Our first corpse. Perfect, from here I can see… well, it’s pretty well-mauled.” the Doctor said. “This is good, we know how it kills.”
Kaite paused, but nodded, hesitating.
“You’re here for something. But what?” he said, pressing against the glass. “Something, something. It’s always something.”
Kaite mirrored the doctors moves, but stayed silent. "What is it?" He asked.
“Something dangerous. But primitive, from the looks of it, not of this earth.” he said softly. “It won’t hurt us if we stay in here. It thinks it has us cornered, that we’ll just give in eventually.”
Kaite nodded. "Well, of course it's dangerous. It just killed somebody." He whispered, sighing.
“Don’t give me that tone. Wasn’t there something saying respect your elders? After a few thousand years I’d expect that to come into effect, but no. Humans, with their insistence on acting like fools,” he griped. The Doctor ran through the cafe, looking around, when suddenly the lights went out.
Kaite felt bad, but shook it off with the feeling of fear as the lights shut off.
Oh, crud.
(I love Kaite just. Not reacting at all to any of the weird shit the Doctor says lol.)
(XD- He doesn't even know what to say lmao-)
