Hey everyone! To get my players to warm up and start getting into character, I have decided to start a session with a ten minute warm up. I tested it out with this one scenario where my players had been asked to help get a pesky imp out of tavern. Minimal details were provided and my players really enjoyed it, but once the ten minutes were up, they had to stop. This really helped gear them up for the main story line, and is also good for me as the dm to practice improv. However, if I have to do this every session, i'm not sure what scenarios i can do that are not only just combat and take about ten minutes. Any ideas? Thanks!

Do they have to be into character right from the start of the session? That's going to be really difficult. In my experience, people fall into character quicker while playing when you as DM are setting the tone by role-playing the characters yourself (actually talk like the characters and minimal gestures instead of describing everything) and when they feel comfortable with each other.

Also what might be an easier version of what you're doing: describe a scenario to which they have to react as their characters would. for example:

The room is on fire, the door is locked and you're on the third floor.
player starts running around and screaming

It's a small difference but it might be enough to get the result you want without requiring a lot of preparation.
