I have this character who I want to be a bit squeamish around blood and gore but I don't know how people react to it since I'm fine around it. So what happens to y'all when you see blood or is it all one big over exaggeration? If not then is it only for larger quantities or even small ones? Is it a fear or just something you hate? What goes through y'all head when you see blood? Just give me as much of the details you want or even linking me to an article or site that you know is reliable is just as good!
I'm better at reading gore than watching it, but even then I cringe a little. But whenever i'm watching a gory scene, I would cover my eyes and ears and sometimes even run to another room just so I wouldn't hear any screams.
But why do you cringe? Does it make you sick at all? I'm just wondering what runs through your head when it happens.
There are some cases where I do feel sick, especially when i'm watching The Walking Dead, and hearing people scream as they're being eaten alive is just… I don't even know how to describe it. And most of the time I see gore, I imagine myself in that situation subconsciously.
I would guess that it depends on the person's type of sensitivity. Some people might fear or despise gore because they instinctively associate it with danger. "That person is injured, and whatever hurt them could hurt me too." Or, "That person is hurt/sick and could have a contagious disease, which I should not expose myself to".
Other people (myself included, I think) are averse to gore on a more empathetic level, and they don't like watching people suffer because it emotionally upsets them as well. For example, I can watch movies where people get beat up without batting an eye, but the second they start crying or screaming or not fighting back, I start to get really uncomfortable and I have to stop watching. It's not the blood 'n guts I mind, but the person in pain that I'm unable to rescue or harden my heart to.
Hope that helps! ^^
Then there are people who will straight up faint at the sight of blood, but I think I read somewhere that’s a more physiological thing, so you might want to look into that if it’s relevant to what you need.
Okay that is good to know thank you!
