forum Hey there! I was wondering if anybody else has a Narcoleptic character, or if it was just me.

As the title said, I was wondering if anyone has a character with Narcolepsy. It's a sleep disorder, makes the bearer fall asleep, causes a few mental things.

So yeah, does anybody have a character that shares Sorrel's disorder?

@Becfromthedead group

No, but I feel like it would definitely be an interesting disorder to include. I've done a good bit of research about it (but then again, I've done a lot of research about a lot of conditions sooo)

Interesting!
@Becfromthedead - It really is, and it works for soft boys. Really gives off a 'I need a protective friend.' character vibe.
@Relsey - Ooh, what was it?
@minibar - Oh holy heck Alec needs to meet Sorrel lol

Deleted user

@Coffee haha, I guess. I've actually got insomnia, so I guess I designed Sorrel as my polar opposite.

I have a few symptoms consistent with mild narcolepsy so I was legit worried I had it for a while… and I mean I still might, idk. It’s probably something else though.
I dislike making a condition into any sort of trope. But I do agree giving the character someone supportive to help them is a good move.

that would be something haha

Honestly it'd be so hilarious. It'd be like, "Hi, I'm Sor- Zzz." "Hi, Sor, I'm- Zzz."

That's exactly how it would go down lmaooo

Okay, I'm not trying to be rude (sorry if it comes across that way), but I hope you're not playing it off as a funny or cute quirk or something because narcolepsy can be really hard to deal with and you don't just instantly fall asleep at random times (it's more complicated than that).

I can testify…

Nah, we're just joking around right now, i know how serious it can be cause I've done a lot of research on the thing and i also have a friend of mine that has narcolepsy, tho, sorry if i offended y'all or something

@Becfromthedead group

I mean, I'm not offended, but I know some people who might say those things seriously. I more wanted to make sure there weren't misconceptions that you had and were including in your writing, because I've seen plenty of conditions that get played off as the butt of a joke in stories and it's kind of terrible.

yeah, I get that, but it's better to do extensive research first before you try to write any type of medical illness- i mean, as writers it's our job to be as accurate as possible. But yeah, we were just messing around, it wasn't supposed to be taken seriously.

bro, i feel you on that lmao
i have stuff for pulmonary hypertension all the way to babies whose heart was born outside the ribcage- junk is brutal man

Hey there! No worries, I absolutely love criticism for my ideas and whatnot. The little scenario I made up was out of a joke, and not meant to be what actually happened. I did quite a lot of research, and actually wrote a few essays on the subject itself! I know there's a lot more to it, don't worry, and I understand that it isn't just falling asleep. Many, many more things are in play with it. Thanks for this, though, it's always a good reminder.
