So I have this species in my story that is blind for the first 5 or so years of their lives, as in they will have complete sight at 5 not that their sight will being to improve at 5. So how exactly would this effect the development of a baby since babies observe and copy their parents right? I assume speech wouldn't be a problem but what about things like walking for example, or even how to do things in a day to day life? I think some skills would be learned a bit later but what would need to happen for that to be possible? Just give me off your ideas or facts that you think would help.

I know this is late, but I thought I'd try to help.
Not sure about most of this, but one thing that springs to mind is maybe parents of such children would talk to them a lot? Like not just talking with them, but also narrating what's going on around them, explaining how to do things, etc. They might also hold onto their kids a lot more, to guide them and help them do simple tasks? Like for example, holding onto their kids hands to teach them how to use a spoon and fork, or how to pet an animal, stuff like that. I feel like they might also try to prepare their kid for the experience of sight before it happens, by describing stuff and explaining what it's like to see, that sort of thing.
Of course, this is all assuming your species is similar to humans in any way. Another thing you might do is try and research how people that were born blind go about life differently from others. That's all I can think of, good luck with your story!
