I don't have horses in my world. They don't exist. My concern is that since my animals don't have hooves, they might be unable to carry lots of weight for an extended period of time. Think ostriches' feet. Without horseshoes, or something to help with the added strain of pulling a cart/wagon/etc., is it still believable to give these creatures similar stamina and strength to that of a horse? Also, what sort of gear should I be looking at? Just a standard saddle, reigns, and bridle, or anything specialized? This is just something that's been bothering me, and I'd appreciate any help!

maybe some braces for there legs to help with the strain, and instead of a bridle, maybe have a harness around the bird's chest with reigns on either side. Since birds tend to have fragile necks its safer for them (at least that comes up in my mind you don't have to follow that advice). But I like the idea of large birds being used as work animals. But make sure you keep in mind the intelligence of the animal, because some times too much intelligence leads to a poor work animal or a very difficult to train animal.
