The dragons in my world are closely connected to the Supreme God. They are considered the guardians of the Gods.

The Supreme Dragon King is actually connected to the Supreme God, being a descendant of the God. The Dragon King is one of the largest dragons known to exist. The only other dragons that rival his size is one Elder and the Chaos Dragon.

As such with the Chaos Dragons, most Chaos dragons were put down due to their unstable powers. The one Chaos Dragon, Titus, however, was not stopped soon enough, to where he grew incredibly powerful to the point he could very well challenge the Supreme God. Though, if he really wants to, Titus could just destroy an entire planet. Though he would die in the process
There are only a few other Chaos dragons who still exist, though they were allowed to live since they were able to control their usually unstable powers.

Nearly all the dragons in my world have the ability to take on a human or humanoid form. Usually Elders or more feral dragons don't use human forms.
Dragons come in all shapes and sizes, same goes for different abilities, powers, etc.

However, there is only one Golden Dragon, daughter of the Dragon King.
The Golden Queen was also considered the last, though was killed by humans protecting his only 2 heirs. The Death of the Dragon Queen is what sparked the hatred between man and dragon

Most dragons hate humans, though there are the few who don't mind the humans
Some humans and dragons have even mated, which in turn spawn Dragonkin, part human and part dragon hybrids

There's a lot more I have about the dragons in my world, but this is just a bit of a short summary of them

@Lord_Hellstrande

Dragons breathe different based on the color of their scales, and those scales range from chromatic (red, green, black, blue, white) to metallic (brass, gold, copper, bronze, silver). Red, gold, brass=fire, Green, black, copper=acid, Blue, bronze=lightning, and White, silver=cold. The chromatic dragons are considered "evil" while the metallic are "good" and they fight over more than just territory, just like humans do. Dragon riders do exist but they have to destined to ride, and if they die there is a high chance that the dragon does too. Dragons are highly intelligent creatures and are normally willing to talk before brutally murdering someone

For an elegant dragon, try colors white, lavender and gold. Also put in a long neck and a wispy tail (use a bird of paradise’s tail as a guide).

Wind Dragons are a race of Manakete. 10,000 years ago, the dragon's heath were dwindling, so they decided to breed with other races, Magic with Fire, creating Thunder, and Ice with Divine, creating Wind. Read https://www.notebook.ai/forum/characters/demons for more backstory, and idk why it says "characters".

Wind Dragons are mostly green-scaled, but their blue wings are fluffy. They have little hair tufts on their heads, the color corresponding to their hair color in human form. They have large, long ears and antler-like horns. They have golden fins on their arms, legs, and tail. They are chubby, and their arms are short. The orphaned Wind Dragon Lewyn, is noted to have dark wings and blue fins.

The rules applying to demon blood and beaststones is true for all Manaketes, too.

Some say the breath of a Wind Dragon contains ice shards that blind the eye. While it is true that they have icy breath, and it can blind, the blinder is the light of their breath. Wind Dragons are very good fliers, despite being so pudgy.

Manaketes are very intelligent, but some are born with a defect that causes them to go on a rampage whenever they use a dragonstone. They are very friendly, and are very close with the Nekomata tribe.

Thunder Dragons are mostly purple, but their wings are dark-colored. They have lavender fluffs on their spine, legs, and tail, and a head crest similar to that of a HTTYD Night Fury's. They are much more graceful than a Wind Dragon. One Thunder Dragon, Ishtar, has scarlet fluff instead of lavender fluff.

The breath of a Thunder Dragon hitting you is said to mirror being struck by lightning. The fire and magic together makes for a very powerful dragon. They are amazing at flying.

Thunder Dragons are extremely vain, and think higher of themselves over Wind Dragons and Nekomata, this is partly due to losing the war, also, the most gorgeous are the most selfish. They prefer to stay with their own kind, although youngsters are eager to see outside the invisible walls.

ooh fun

So on Medeis there are two types of dragons. The Western Medein Dragon or Western Dragon and the Eastern Medein Dragon or Eastern Dragon (keep in mind that west on Medeis is north and east is south so in our world they would be North Dragons and South Dragons).

The Western Dragons live in a place called Desolis, home to 11 volcanoes and a whole lot of ash, which is in the centre of the Frozen Plains. Western dragons typically match their surroundings. They are ashy, coal black in colour and have veins of fire running through their wings and chest scales. They look like living volcanoes. Their insides are fire and they can spit lava and also breathe fire. They have two legs and use their wings as front legs. They eat these things called swimmers. Swimmers are small fish-like creatures that live in magma. Western dragons are sly and violent but aren't the brightest creatures. They think in this strange loop of 'eat', 'kill', 'fight', 'sleep', 'fly', etc etc. It's hard for them to focus on anything that's not straight forward. They're society is brutal and hard to survive in. They can't leave Desolis because they would freeze before they reached any form of civilisation. When a western dragon's fire burns out, they die. It's for the best. Here's the design for these guys- https://file.toyhou.se/images/7460827_CZb29yQyQ3KDIIn.png
That one's name is Slaughter. He's great if a little dull.

Eastern dragons are rare and usually live the mountains. They usually match mountainous environments. They're scales resemble rock and they're colours are browns, whites and greens. They have no wings and six legs. They are wiser and less aggressive then they're volcanic cousins but can get very territorial. They speak telepathically, as is the case with most intelligent creatures on Medeis. Eastern dragons are known for being clairvoyant and mystic. It's also said they can teleport which overrules the need to fly. They can sense what goes on all over the continent, some say ancient eastern dragons can sense all over the world. Some ignorant people go to eastern dragons for guidance but educated people know not to disturb them because they would rather take advantage of an easy meal than offer the wisdom that comes with age.

dragons are great

@Blackmerexv

Dragons. It's always dragons. What ever happened to the others? Wyrms, wyverns, drakes, Lungs, Hydras? It's always dragon this, dragon that. What about the Li Lung, known for its benevolence, or the wyvern, known for its ferocity?

Dragons are great, they are. Marvelous beasts that are ferocious power houses.

But give me a Lung that rules a mountain and guides the people with wisdom.

Give me a Wyvern that is feared for its ferocity by a kingdom but revered for its kindness by another.

Give me a Wyrm that protects a city from those who would harm the people.

Give me a world with more than just a dragon.

Give me variety.

Technically, wyverns, wyrms, and hydras are dragons. I have those in my official novel (and wyverns are in the fanfic too).

Wyverns are very loyal, and can sense feelings. If you want to become a wyvern rider, let the wyvern make the first move. Unless the wyvern attacks you, you can train him/her. They are much smaller than dragons, have two legs only, and don't use a human(oid) form. However, they are related to dragons and can breath fire.

Wyrms are called basilisks and, like wyverns, are intelligent creatures, but unlike wyverns, they are capable of speech, and have no legs or wings. Sadly, unlike hydras and wyverns, which are seen correctly, basilisks are often seen as inhuman beasts who kill for sport. They are often killed in "heroic" acts of "honor". In truth, they are gentle creatures, and some have adopted orphans of other species. They will even adopt and protect those that would be their prey, and don't eat them. They will only kill adult prey and sickly prey. They are good swimmers and have icy breath.

Hydras are some of the most deadly creatures. They have no wings, but three heads. The middle head is sentient and can speak and think, the left head eats, and the right head breaths electric acids. They are feared, but admired. As dangerous as they are, they are intelligent, and protect villages. However, they are still very dangerous, and if you anger one, expect to be eaten or electrocuted/melted.

I like your out of the box thinking

@Grecophile

My world has wyrms that are more cliche than anybody else on this website could probably throw forth. My world has four wyrms, or elder dragons, living on the far corners of the world. The wyrms of air, earth, fire, and water. The air wyrm lives high up in the sky near the Apokrim Alps, the earth wyrm resides near the city of Apok, the fire wyrm lives in the ocean, and the fire wyrm lives in Lake Machurys.

@Lord_Hellstrande

I do have something on the statement of other draconic species not being used, is because some people don't know the difference between them. Also, kobolds are traditionally a race of draconic humanoids, usually small and obviously dragon-like, and they are represented even less than other species. Media just hasn't covered the different species, but anyone who knows about them can ask to see if someone knows or find it out themselves. Another little tidbit, wyrm is the elven word for dragon

Hi! I hope I'm not bothering anyone here, but I'm really new to worldbuilding and the people in this chat seem to know what they're talking about.

I'm trying my hand at building a world entirely based off of dragons, and I think it's really stupid and flawed. Does anyone here have any tips for designing them well? (Off another topic, I'm actually happy someone mentioned differing types/names of this species! My personal favorites are Wyverns and Lungs – I have a Wyvern named Zephyr that I love to bits so far :D)

I guess I have an example I've elaborated on well enough to be an example if anyone needs it, but I won't put that here until someone tells me if I'm unwanted in this forum or not.
(I hope messages can be deleted. If not, and I'm not in the right place for this topic, I'll edit my comment to be next to nothing. Sorry in advance!)

MissMistake

I'm still really early in the design/development process for my dragons, but so far I have Lungs, Wyverns, Hydras, Dragons, and I'm considering leviathans for the Sea and Wyrms that melt into the shadows like goop! I'm actually really fond of all these different types of dragons – why just stick to the classic four-legged two-winged fire breathers and their stolen princesses?

Thanks for having this thread – this actually helped me a lot ^u^ (I'll leave now, haha… have a nice day!)

elite alien scavenger

Well on galactia i mix every real animal with a dragon and the dragons live on planet called draconica,their is a cosmic dragon called mikai who is basicly the god of dragons and then there are the robo dragons that shoot a big laser beam out of their mouth(i mostly like doing sci fi world)

@Dragoncita group

Depends on the story and setting

Some dragons are considered evil and cruel beasts
Though they can also be considered quite benevolent and kind

Though most of my dragons have a neutral standing in my world
