forum Any Shadowy Names? Or Latin Roots?

I've got a creature that can project semi-corporeal images of themselves in combat. They're charcoal-colored, quadruped, and reptile-like with a face similar to the demo-dogs in Stranger Things 2. Any name suggestions?

Carbumbor?
(Latin ‘carbo’ + Latin ‘umbra’ + Latin ‘-or’)

Feel free to steal this btw:

1. Pick a name that sounds cool / has a deep meaning to it
   Ereshkigal is the name of the Mesopotamian goddess of the underworld. I like the sound of this name and the meaning behind it, so I'll use that.
2. Rearrange the letters to make it look or sound different.
   "Erishki," I just replaced the "e" with and "i" and removed "gal"
   "Kigal," I just took out "Eresh"
   Opportunities are literally endless

Umbralux, derived from Umbra= shade, and lux=light for the name "shadelight" Its an original, but feel free to use it. alternatevely, other latin roots include "nox" for night or "tenebris" for darkness

If you're basing your world off of a certain culture, try looking into the folklore, mythology, and language of said culture. You could take certain words you find interesting and twist them around until you find something that sounds cool. It also depends on if you want something more literal sounding, like "shadow caster" for example, or make up a new word entirely like "enenra."

I usually just go google translate,
go to english as a starter language
in the right hand box go to latin/whatever language you want
type in either your name or a pets name or something like that (love, death, friendship ect.)
it should give you a new/ interesting name!

Fallere v. to lie
Serpens n. snake
Draco n. snake or dragon

I usually just go to google translate and see what darkness, or other similar words mean in latin or other languages

Solani- it is nightshade in latin

I've used Nyx before because it's a short name, and Nyx is the Greek goddess of the night… fitting for a shadow creature

Chiaroscuro, its the name for using shadows and light in art. Not sure of the origin.
