The barmaid screamed, bursting from the kitchen. There's a light scrapping sound accompanying squishy movements. Following in behind her is a slimy black mass, dragging a kitchen pot behind it. It smells burnt and foul. A young male peeks out from the doorway at it.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I thought cooking would go by quicker if I just… used a little magic?"
The bar keep sighs. "Mikey, you were supposed to be learning how too cook without magic."
"I know, I know…"

appearance: about 2ft tall, bi-pedal faceless mushrooms. they come in a variety of forms, but only those of a normal mushroom (fx. Button mushrooms, Flat mushrooms. Oyster mushrooms etc.)

behaviour: the mushroom men are able to speak to other plants and also tend to feed off books although they get their needed nutrients from their diet of other non-sentient plants, bones and dead trees. when mushroom men eat handwritten books, it becomes possible for them to absorb some of the knowledge from the book and sometimes even the writers, and possibly become quite intelligent. some of the more intelligent mushroom men are sometimes trained against eating books and are used as assistant librarians. on very rare occasions some mushroom men have been found, that are able to communicate through echo flowers.
when temperatures become colder, they have been known to enter houses in groups and huddle around fires.
other: the oldest recorded mushroom man had learned, among other things, to make fire, farm simple plants, write and speak.
