i don't actively write love stories or even have romantic subplots (sometimes characters do fall in love, but that's never the main goal) but i enjoy the ones that are unexpected and take a while for the characters to even notice what's going on. in my second novel, my main character was bordering on being a sex addict (it was a way for her to forget about the pain of being who she was and be in control instead of having everyone tell her what to do), so when she fell in love it was kinda sweet because it was about both of them being the only two people who really understood each other (in a world without magic, they both had it) and being able to help each other face the big baddie.
Yeah, same, the romance isn't really the main focus od my stories a lot of times. If it happens, it happens y'know? Anyway, in the story I'm currently working on, the main character finds out (on prom night, no less) that his girlfriend basically is only with him for pity points and therefore, become more popular. Main character dumps her and sulks outside where prom is, where his best friend meets up with him and tries to console him. Best friend is pretty drunk and ends up kissing the main character. It's awkward for awhile after that, but main character ends up realizing his feelings for best friend, and they start going steady.
@Cami @riotwyatt cute!
I love stories where the main character ends up with his or her rival. Like, the main character and the rival are forced to be together for a given amount of time and they realise how much they actually get along. These two characters are usually hateful towards each other but think of the other in their free time.
