i actually have entire playlists created for my characters! my favorite playlists are Yuki's and Jean's
Right now, Yuki and Jean are organized in chronological order of when each song is applicable to their story.
Yuki's playlist begins with love songs, (I Found by Amber Run, Snowman by Sia, A Thousand Year by Christina Perri) when he falls in love with his best friend, and proposes to her, then marries her. The songs take a steep decline when they're about violence, war, and death (Crossfire by Stephen, Run Boy Run by Woodkid, Far Too Young To Die by Panic! At the Disco). Yuki's entire race is irradicated; and he's the sole survivor. The songs then discuss loss, missing those he loves, and grief (Say Something by A Great Big World, The Ghost of You by My Chemical Romance, The After You by Miakoda). They then start to slowly become more upbeat, (Chosen Ones by Mountains vs. Machines, King by Lauren Aquilina, Memories by Panic! At the Disco) as he finds and makes some new friends to help him cope. Though he's still recovering, his friends help him move on, and the songs become more bittersweet and discuss maturity and growth (Brand New Day by Fireflight, Small Hands by Young the Giant, Mind Over Matter by Young the Giant).
Jean's playlist begins with songs of pain, abuse, and frustrations against his family (The Boy In the Bubble by Alec Benjamin, The Kids Don't Wanna Come Home by Declan McKenna, Blood by My Chemical Romance). Because of the abuse he suffers in his family, he develops a deep hatred inside of him, not only directed at his abusers but at himself, and he turns to drugs as an escape (Everybody Gets High by MISSIO, Piece of Sh*t by Cemetery Sun, American Trash by Innerpartysystem). While he's in college, Jean catches his friend in the act of killing Jean's family. Strangely enough, Jean didn't care about his family's death, but that fact scared him, and his friend/family's killer fled and disappeared. (Will I Ever Care by VELVETEARS, Cemetery by COIN, Smokey Eyes by Lincoln). As a careless drug addict, Jean grew up escaping from every emotion by going to clubs, partying, drinking, and getting high. (Habits (Stay High)- Rock Cover by Our Last Night, Phobia Orgasma by Oliver Riot, Puppeteer by MAX). Though one day, on a walk home, Jean couldn't escape his bottled up anger anymore and accidentally killed a man in a fit of rage. (Bitter Fuck by Joji, Look What You Made Me Do -Rock Cover by Our Last Night, Killer by the Ready Set). Realizing he doesn't feel too much guilt, Jean picks up killing as a job; he becomes a bounty hunter. (Psychoville by Dabbla, Dead or Alive by Jazz Cartier, Dangerous by Royal Deluxe). After a bit of that work, he discovers his old friend, and the murderer of his family. Strangely enough, he's happy to see him, but things are still kinda awkward. (Flames by Tedy, Sober Up by AJR, You're Somebody Else by flora cash). Regardless, the two of them team up to work as organized criminals. (Partners In Crime by Set it Off, Legendary by Welshly Arms, New Kings by Sleeping Wolf.)
