I’m at the gym right now and got on the topic of injuries so- why not?
Cody: Before being casted out of hell, Cody’s left eye was clawed out by another- higher ranking- demon. The human body that he possesses is not missing an eye, though he is now blind in the left eye, and has a huge scar racing down from his brow to the middle of his cheek.
Jomei: The golden lines on his face were actually engraved into him once he turned 500. It was the worst experience he had ever been through as knives heated up to extreme temperatures cut the designs out, and then melted gold mixed with star dust was filled into them. The marks are connected to his powers and glow when he used them (along with his eyes.)
Brooke: After coming out as trans, her father went into a blind rage and almost beat her to death. Her brother had tried to step in and stop their father, but was tragically killed when the man tried to kill Brooke with a gun and shot him instead
Kuroko: Died of total organ failure from metastasized cancer. Poor baby was 14 and like- I love him and miss him
lorelei: was stabbed. through her cheek. that was a fun one and of course i wrote about it
cisco: had his finger cut off as part of a ritual he was forced into. he did not consent. he was kidnapped
jo: an injury pertaining to self harm, so i'm not going to describe it. the biggest thing to note is that he didn't actually harm himself. he would never, not after his brother's suicide. he was possessed, and the ghost tried to kill him using that method.
catori: stabbed through her fucking heart and literally killed, only to be resurrected with the sword in her god damn chest. she was fine but like.
i had a character once who's eye was removed using a pocket knife while she was restrained in a dark basement. it was her knife and she was far from sedated.
Crispin: Gets stabbed by his own father, tries to fly away only to crash into a building which results in both a concussion and a broken wing. And just to make him suffer a little bit more, the stab wound later becomes infected.
Caleb: Gets tortured by the main villain group which mostly involved forcing his head underwater until he was on the verge of passing out, and then later gets branded with a hot iron. Right when this is all over, he's told by the leader that his sister was killed just to mess with him (she's actually alive the whole time but he doesn't know this).
Kit: He's pretty sheltered tbh. So far, the worst thing that happens to him is when he falls into a river with a really strong current and gets a bit scraped up from getting slammed into rocks. I think Crispin slaps him in the face at one point, but other than that, Kit has it pretty easy.
Leo: When his father finds out about his powers he responds by taking a knife and slashing him across the face which leaves him blind in one eye.
Gerard: There's a lot of things that happen to Gerard, honestly. He was beaten repeatedly by his father, and like Caleb is also branded with a hot iron by the bad guys.
Matthew: As a child he had to undergo a surgical procedure that he didn't technically need. It took him weeks to recover, only to find out that it didn't really work. As an adult, he's poisoned by his younger brother and almost dies.
(I definitely feel like I'm missing some, but I think that covers most of the important characters from my main project).
Aurelius: Gets stabbed through the upper arm with a halberd. On top of that, it's done by someone who he's just learned has betrayed him. He can't use his sword arm for weeks, and he's anemic, so the injury absolutely sucked, and so did recovery.
Pollux: Had burns on probably at least half of his body, some of them up to third degree.
Cyrus: Frequently deals with beatings from his father, but the worst is when he has betrayed him. His father doesn't hesitate to make an example, and he is whipped until he's fallen unconscious, then thrown in prison with other traitors and prisoners of war.
I do scatter in more minor injuries with my other characters, but I'm seriously not trying to put anyone out of commission for too long.
Blythe: Lost her left leg from the knee down in a battle. Severely infected compound fracture. Has tons of physical scars from fighting people and also has some self-inflicted cuts from a lonely point in her time. She has been diagnosed with PTSD, depression and anxiety. Sort of has androphobia but not really because it kinda depends and it's really hard to explain.
Peter: Had a large concrete slab fall on his legs and crushes them (in the same battle as Blythe). Ends up losing both from mid-thigh down. He still gets kinda depressed about it but, in Blythe's words, "It was you or your legs. And I was not losing you."
Seshi: Broken jaw, courtesy of Paikai (who wasn’t much better off than him). Nearly ripped off, thankfully it was not. Although he does have good healing due to his species, his jaw was not able to heal fully and it remains crooked. Also lost three of his arms (received replacement for one of them, his secondary pair of arms are still gone and most likely will not return). Was also greatly blinded during the fight, and with age, he’s gone fully blind. One of two hearts mostly destroyed, “died” for a few days (was still alive, just in a low state of activity while his body healed enough to be able to get to a better spot.) Paikai assumed he’d killed Seshi, but he did not.
Paikai: Disembowelled by a curse Seshi put on him after the fight, this is how he died. Several broken teeth, one of his eyes got gouged out by Seshi. His eye could’ve regenerated if not for his death a few hours later.
Kimberly: both eyes gouged out, very rough, unprofessional work. She had healthy eyes as well, someone just wanted them for money.
Crosos: body is constantly harvested for food (as it can regenerate as needed..unfortunately being held against its will and can feel everything.)
In addition, any of my Kaiju characters would have pretty bad injuries, but I’m not gonna include them (besides Crosos, and maybe Kimberly if you count her being a pseudo) because
- I’ve got too many kaiju
- Broken bones is everyday for them. Well, not everyday, but more often, basically
Oh no, this'll be a long list-
Cordelia: Stabbed through the abdomen and shot in the same-ish place with an arrow, she would've died if she hadn't been saved with healing magic.
Louis: Broke his ankle as a teenager when he was escaping the fae (he jumped into a cellar while carrying a toddler, so he couldn't catch his fall).
Giana: Breaks her foot as an early teen.
Beatrice: Injures her leg in a workplace accident, and needs to use crutches and a brace for the rest of her life.
Samuel: Has his ankle broken for a Deliberate Injury Gambit that doesn't even work, gets stabbed by his employer once she realizes he's a traitor.
Cedar: Stabbed when taking on Oleander's guards/providing a distraction for Giana.
Christopher: Sold his heart to the fae, and even though it doesn't cause recurring physical pain, the pain of doing so made him pass out.
Eleanor: Poisoned by another noble and only saved by Christopher selling his heart.
Jamie: Once his relationship with Eleanor is exposed, the king (Eleanor's father) orders for Jamie to be beaten and have an eye cut out.
Georgie: Dislocates his hip when he's in the faery world; given his very sheltered life, it was his first experience with real pain.
Claire: Burns her hands and arms in an explosion during a science experiment gone wrong.
Henry: Messes up his knee during a baseball game, and ends up needing surgery on it.
Jackson: In a fairly early moment in his career, he cornered someone dangerous in a moment of hubris. The guy pulled out a knife, and instead of running, Jackson tried to diffuse the situation. It didn't work, and he got stabbed in the abdomen. He's had a collection of career-related injuries ranges from black eyes to being shot, but that one was the most severe.
Geneva: Broke her arm badly in a car crash pre-story.
Victor: Got several shards of glass lodged in his hand in the explosion and its aftermath, as well as bruises on his face, courtesy of his father.
Amira: Her arm gets pinned down by a tree branch in a battle, and is amputated once she reaches safety.
Lavinia: Has one of her hands cut off and the other broken, as well as her throat slit and tongue mutilated so she can't speak.
Jon: Takes a (fairly shallow) shot to the arm during some recon before the Standoff of the Docks, and is badly concussed during the battle itself. Stabbed in the final confrontation.
Nich: Dislocates his shoulder when fighting his former boss, shot around the same shoulder as well. He needs a sling for a while, which kind of sucks considering he's a thief.
Leah: Her leg is crushed by debris during a mob attack, and it ends up being amputated. She gets a prosthetic, luckily.
Arthur: Breaks his arm in a faery ambush.
Oberon: Has a chunk of his leg torn out during a training exercise gone wrong.
Ayla: Blinded in one eye while dueling in the final confrontation.
Beck: While wandering the city, he slips on a patch of ice on the steps and breaks his wrist.
Darius: Has bits of two of his fingers cut off during interrogation.
Lucas: Slashed across the face by Oleander, which blinds him in one eye, and also takes a bad slash to the arm.
Lysander: Gathers various grazes when dueling Evan, as well as some broken ribs, and breaks his leg during the final confrontation.
Dima: Badly breaks his leg in an escape gone wrong.
Gabriel: A faery prisoner of war attempted to gauge his eye out. It didn't work, but he's got scars.
Jayson: His hand is badly broken during a fight, and he also is given a Glasgow Grin.
Max: Shot in the knee while being held hostage.
Talia: Shot just above her hip in an assassination attempt, but survives.
Nathaniel: Got shot down by a duck hunter when he was eight and landed on his back, crushing his wings and permanently crippling them
None of my characters get out unscarred, but these are the worst ones.
Ruby: Has fire powers, her hands were put in fire proof cuffs, she tried to burn them, but instead just burned herself.
Fern: Had lines branded onto her forearm everyday for 42 days in a row.
Ferrin: Made the mistake of trying to stop Fern, got sliced in the shoulder by a broadsword. It got infected and he had a high fever.
Columbine: Tried to run into a burning building to save her mom, she's the healer so…
Xavier: Got attacked by an angry porcupine.
Zephyr: Got shot in the leg by an arrow, thankfully it wasn't poisoned unlike the arrows he uses.
Adam: His leg was crushed, he had to get it amputated at the hip, his other foot was also crushed and had to be amputated at the knee, the amputation surgery didn't have modern sedatives.
Valen: His right eye was cut in half by a whip at a certain point when he was captured and interrogated by the enemy.
Arven: He was tortured for so long he lost his mind, and had his armor fused to his body. They kept at it until he became a mindless vessel of hate, and then they used him to attack his old friends who he didn't even remember.
Sasha: He got trapped in a oil fire, and ended up burning his face quite badly.
Boa: Boa was shredded alive, and then brought back from the dead by having his heart tied to a monster. What they didn't know is that he actually was resurrected, and as they tied his heart and soul to the monster, his body manifested and nearly killed him again. Long story short, some aliens interfered, and essentially re-built him. He's alive now, but has a LOT of synthetic bones and joints, terrible scarring, and since he's tied to the monster, he's in constant pain and feels whatever the thing feels. It's very complicated. His heart is synthetic, since his organic heart was stolen, and with his soul essentially cut in half, there's a lot going on.
Ranir: Ranir, once she ages, will find out that despite her best efforts and precautions, she's developing Whitebreath. Caused by breathing the toxic air of the swamp-lands, it's like black lung. Small white crystals begin to develop in a person's lungs over time, depending on exposure, and they make it incredibly painful to breath. They don't have a cure, or any remedy, asides from lung transplant, but by the time she realizes what's happening, there's no chance of that happening. Hers will never get bad enough to kill her before old age does, but for the rest of her life, breathing is a highly unpleasant experience.
Both my characters are living through a mutagenic apocalypse that has killed most humans, but Jason had his arm 90% ripped off my his mutated pet bird after it was enslaved by a supernatural warlord.
Oblivion was ripped away from his brother in an orphanage at age 3, left alone in a world where everyone seemed to hate him.
Erude: was impaled into the ground by huge wooden and later metal spears for several hundred years, being fully conscious and buried alive all this time and, being mentally connected to her children (a race) she heard a lot of their dying screams in her head and became mad as a result.
Vanth: had to be burned down to the flesh by fire magic multiple times in short succession by her own comrades to deplete the huge mana ressources the mad god possessing her had, by making it regenerate her body everytime. Halfway through, due to the intense pain, she regained enough control of her body to start screaming. Before this she lost an arm to a grenade, but it regrew with scarring on the shoulder.
Yasu: Got caught in the blast of an aerial bomb and had his back burned.
Colby: Got sliced across her back by Duxe, while he was being controlled. Colby was attempting to save Catiline who was Duxe's initial target.
Duxe: Almost mauled to death by a shard (a monster completely made of glass). Got some good slices to the face.
Tyler: Got slashed with a double sided scythe across the chest, not gonna go into detail here, but let's just say that you could see organs you just shouldn't have. and he died…I miss my baby :<
Catiline: Had both arms dislocated while being dragged across a field by a horse designed to kill.
Kandy: Stabbed directly through her nose. Then had it ripped out of her face only to be stabbed again through her chest. She also died…
Hunter: Right arm got completely burned while trying to move wood that was on fire in a successful attempt to save Duxe.
Naomi has any number of injuries sustained during her military career (I said volumes right there); the most obvious are a broken nose and getting the right side of her face ripped open by horrifying sand creatures (she came within a hair's breadth of losing an eye). Afterwards, she lost a leg to horrifying deep-sea creatures (and now uses a prosthesis).
CJ is also former military. He spent most of his career patching up Naomi and her compatriots, and Saw Some Shit as a result.

The Betrayed Veteran has any number of injuries sustained during her military career (I said volumes right there); the most obvious are a broken nose and getting the right side of her face ripped open by horrifying sand creatures (she came within a hair's breadth of losing an eye). Afterwards, she lost a leg to horrifying deep-sea creatures (and now uses a prosthesis).
The Sorrowing Medic is also former military. He spent most of his career patching up the Veteran and her compatriots, and Saw Some Shit as a result.

To take this thread to a slightly more humorous place:
Illka 'Colin', Festus, Anye 'Mattie', Inox 'Orville', Nettye 'Dara', Ddreuuga 'Ruth', Extul 'Chloe', Tivahe 'Natasha', Vitahr 'Roland', Kalli 'Bob', Rihvax 'Lucy', and Vetu 'Fritz' all are repeat offender thieves who met in their planet's prison. They'd all already lost both their hands, and were fixin to lose more than that, so they decided to escape and come to earth together.
Losing hands is very painful, they will tell you. But what's more painful is trying to live together and function with only three prosthetics to share among them. Also to pass off as NORMAL humans! Doing NORMAL human things! : D
Slightly more seriously, my guy Ro got messed up at a certain point. He nearly lost his jaw, (Like, the skin was ripped, the muscles were torn, his bone was broken, in SEVERAL places, etc), had most the skin ripped off his face, and got skewered through his stomach by a metal rod. Car crashes are no joke, kids.
You'll be happy to hear his cat escaped with minimal injury. Athletic lady leaped, tucked, and rolled as neatly as you please. She actually landed ahead of the car as it flipped, and darted back under it as it came down for a landing. Her paws are a bit scrapped, and she's very sore now (she ain't no spring chicken), but she'll be okay.
My character Austin basically had his entire chest opened up for some intensive surgery that involved carving runes into his heart and lungs and other stuff. He ended up ripping quite a few of those stitches while also getting shot at. Not a fun time.
Ok, many of my projects involve awful injuries to characters so here are some:
From my comic.
-Milo: pretty much everything, the man can regenerate so he has lost limbs, eyes, skin, teeth, got stabbed, cut, shot, everything.
-Wren: has broken a few ribs and gone under different surgeries before.
-Eli and Isla: both father and daugther have burned their fingerprints off.
-Ezekiel: Got half of his face burned.
Nameless sci-fy project
-Laelhan: got several burns on the right side of her face to the point she partially lost hearing in one ear, besides having multiple bullet wounds.
-Iure: broke everything from her pelvis to her feet to the point she needed over a year of therapy to walk again plus implants on her legs (alien technology crap).
-Axel: lost an arm, a leg and an eye.
-Ke'Rel: a veteran who broke lots of bones and most of them never properly heals, is inpain most of the time and needs a cane to walk.
-Ahir: lost a few fingers, an eye, a whole arm, needs metal implants on his jaw and replacements for a few sensory organs.
Project Failure
-Dineke: has been experimented on since childhood, has lost skin, organs, broken bones, got her nails ripped off, all because she can somehow renegerane them.
-Jan: was beaten and sedate, plus had surgery practiced on him to attach a device to his chest, which he tried to ripped off at some point an it didn't go well.
Oscar, very drunk and obviously not in too good of a mental state, falls down a flight of stairs following his boyfriend's wedding (long story), badly breaking his wrist and three fingers. To make matters worse, he'd almost been done drafting his first book. Lucky for him he's ambidexterous.
Cameron getting bit by a gerbil at age 12
Chester: Was forced into a world that hates his kind, they torture him and scrap him for parts. He's broken, worse than before now.
Lincoln: When he was just a few years old, he somehow ended up on the other side of the walls, he inhaled the air and hasn't felt normal since.
Harli: His best and only friend died, the only one who ever really cared about him as he is. Then a week later his town was bombed. He was the only survivor.
Oscar: Found his mom's mutilated body in a freezer in his basement.
Landers: Was punished in unspeakable ways. He doesn't know how bad what they did to him was.
The prince: His father forced him to take certain jobs to harden him. One of the jobs was surveying lost lives, seeing a life from it's beginning to it's end, so they can be sorted. He found the job boring, but there was one life he went through that has stuck with him, in a bad way. The life was a young girl living with her grandfather, who couldn't walk or do much of anything. She'd left to get something from the store one day and was taken by a few adult men, and well…. you can imagine what happened after. She never came home.
(Most of these are emotional pain…)
One of my guys got his whole eyeball casually scraped out with like a potsherd in the middle of an intense battle, and he kept fighting anyway. Another boy actually got ripped apart altogether and sewn back together again. The latter still isn't okay btw.
When Mastema was a child he ate a small leaf of death nettle and nearly choked to death. It was a very traumatic experience that left his lungs scarred and deformed due to the rash that the death nettle caused.
