forum What do your characters do when they can't sleep?

Do they get snacky? Go for a walk? Watch youtube videos (if they have access to that technology) read a book? Bother their pets? Panic?

My characters all just kinda go outside. The sky they live under is fake, so at "night" time, it releases a sand-like substance that puts anyone outside asleep. Nearly immediately too, since no one is supposed to be outside at "night". But,at least the fake sky eliminates the confusion of timezones, the whole world experiences "day" and "night" at the same time.

Mine sit on their roofs and just stare at the sky. Sometimes they go out in the city and just walk around.

My character, Chelsea, runs around her house and calls her sister(who is definitely asleep) until giving up and making food

Xifeng lounges on top of her penthouse, smoking from her pipe and drinking red wine while watching the city lights below her.

Firrin flops and rolls around on the floor, dragging his ridiculously large and thick blanket along behind him, whining to any person he finds, alseep or not

Wren goes where he can be sure no one can burst in on him, uncovers his wings and curls up under them. Back before Mouse was banished he would've gone and cuddled with him

Mouse talks to no one. He has a conversation with the air like there is someone listening and pretends they answered back. He usually pretends it is Wren. Before he was banished he'd go and cuddle with Wren

Mycan can not sleep anymore so he listens to Mouse talking and answers, unheard and unseen. Or he pretends to sleep by curling up and closing his eyes. Back when he was alive and could sleep, he'd walk around the city until he found someone else awake and he'd hang out with them

When Jax can’t fall asleep, he’ll doodle in his notebook. Most of these doodles are to keep his mind and hopefully help him fall asleep despite his fears. This is usually in his second notebook for casual doodles.

Destrian: When Destrian can't sleep, it's usually because of his boundless energy. He'll pace the castle or practice sparring outside until he either runs out of energy or Sadon notices he's gone and forces him to come back to bed.

Sadon: Sadon's sleepless nights are a result of nightmares. Assuming Destrian is still asleep, he'll just try to get as physically close to him as possible and fall back asleep.

Aryn: Aryn actually stays up all night, researching, writing, and reading. They've spent plenty of countless dark hours in the library, studying. They'll fall asleep in there and one of the princes or Peter will have to wake them up.

Peter: Peter actually sleeps pretty well when he's not on night guard duty, but on the rare nights when he can't, it's also because of nightmares. He'll do routine checks of the castle to help soothe his paranoia.

Frog: …they start smoking. Probably outside, as to not bother Shiloh and get her high too, but it tends to do the trick.
Dick: He knows he needs sleep; he'll still need coffee in the morning, but he'll take every second of shut-eye that he can get. He'll probably listen to the soundtrack of whatever show he's currently in so he can learn his part as he's falling asleep.
Juniper: He draws. It's relaxing, and when he can't figure out how something should look or why what he's doing isn't quite right, that's when he decides to sleep. The downside is he tends to lose track of time, so it could be midnight when he finishes or 4 in the morning.
Shiloh: She'll just stay up. She's drinking a buttload of caffeine in the morning anyway, so why not just stay awake and play Minecraft?

Naomi: Lies awake mulling over whatever currently has her mind in a death spiral. Is snarly in the morning until she's had at least two cups of coffee. Only actually does anything to mitigate the insomnia if prompted.
CJ: Takes a sleep aid to avoid being in the same condition as Naomi.
Brandee: Goes out to the garage to tinker with a project vehicle until she wears herself out. Can probably be found curled up in a sleeping bag in the closest available truck bed or back seat in the morning.
Kieron: Stress-lifts, stress-eats, or first trains to the point of exhaustion and then gorges himself into a food coma.
Talula: Takes some variety of carefully-formulated futuristic sleep aid.

Destiny will hum tunes to herself until she either falls back asleep or others wake up. Silver just goes on to do whatever she would have otherwise, such as tasks she had failed to complete during the day. Miela would go to the window and gaze outside, maybe lucky enough to fall back to sleep over there. All of them are pretty subdued when they're sleep-deprived.

Sky simply reads.
Nyx will wake Plasma up and they'll cuddle for a while.
Galaxy walks through the palace. Sometimes Tenebris joins her.
Ember stargazers.
Ivy gardens. This was extremely annoying to her parents when she was younger.

Nick will go out into his balcony and smoke a cigarette.
Kurtis just lies awake in bed till he falls asleep.
Ollie gets up and tries to work on one of their projects till they get tired again.
Bella walks around the halls.

Harper: Just tries to go back to sleep- He wouldn't have it any other way.
Yasuho: Listens to soft, ambient music until she drifts back to sleep.
Hime: Just kinda walks around outside, even if it's pitch black.
Zen and Haru: They just talk to each other until they get bored and fall back asleep.
Amber: Texts her girlfriend to see if she's awake. If she is, they just chat for a while until Amber passes out. If she's not, then Amber just looks at memes until she gets sleepy.
Vic: Hugs a picture of Lilac, which helps him fall asleep rather quickly after a few minutes.
Lilac: Counts sheep.
Ana: Also counts sheep.
Jay: He doesn't even know what sleep is- His sleep schedule is nonexistent.
Jin: Also doesn't know what sleep is. He has a very broken sleep schedule.
Nuko: Goes to Zen's room, and if Zen is awake, he just bullies him until he gets bored, then bullies everyone else, occasionally waking up a few of his fellow gang members who were either just about to sleep or had already fallen asleep.
Anti: She's an alien, so she doesn't really sleep. She does wonder what sleep is though.
Kiko: They're a ghost. They basically can't sleep.

Eric: Stare at the ceiling, move around, watch TV
Bradley: Recite monologues, hum, sing softly under his breath

Adisa calls her best friend and wakes her up so she can take her to her work and organize things. She gets bursts of inspiration late at night and needs to do things. That or she finds a party to go to.
Uri is beyond things such as "sleep"
Flora practices cheers or listens to music. She can usually sleep fine unless Adisa calls to wake her up.

(Time for my LU OC boys, yes I have a problem and yeah their nicknames are weird(Cal's sounds straight-up edgy if you've never played his game lmao) but they're my Boys and I love them)

Breaker will usually strike up a conversation with whoever's on watch if he can't sleep. He stays away from heavier topics, of course, but most of his late-night discussions start with a question. Did you have family, what were they like, what's one thing you would want to show us should we make it to your time, what's your favorite place; things like that. If the conversation dies down or his company doesn't want to talk, he'll pull out his photo of Zelda, Ganondorf, and himself and reminisce on all the shenanigans they would get into.

If Calamity can't sleep, he relieves whoever's on watch of his duty and takes it up himself. If the watchman argues, he'll counter with "One of us getting sleep is better than neither." During these shifts, he thinks of home and of his friends. His mind most often wanders to the Princess and his fiancee, Mipha. When he's not thinking of home, Cal thinks about the rest of his group and how they're practically a small family now.

Ree finds a book to read, stays up all night reading, then is surprised by the sun rising.

Zara: Slips out and sneaks around at night looking for trouble. Figures that if she's not going to sleep she might as well do something useful with her time.
Daisy: Also figures she'll do something useful until she gets tired. Probably chores. Or sometimes making a gift.
Niara: Practises her many skills.
Phoenix: Brainstorms about magic.

Zephyr: Plans what to say to the enemies leader before he kills him. Gets bored. Goes and gets into the food.

Raven: Whats TV ALL NIGHT LONG and then sleeps in and misses the buss for school." Dag nab it!"
Jalisa: Puts pranks all over the house!

Milaka: Always Sleeps

Levi: Punches a brick wall

Lisha: Stabs soft wood with deer antlers

Abree: Has Insomnia
