Should the Villain still be a Villain or should they join the good side? Which sounds more appealing?

Are they the main villain or a side villain?
Maybe they are the villain, but they believe what they are doing is good. So when confronted about it, they believe they are the good one and are kind of oblivious to the problem they have created.
The main villain changing sides can very easily come off as anticlimactic and cheesy, but a side villain changing sides can add a new dynamic to the hero's group. At the end of the day, it comes down to motivation and execution.
This is just me personally, but I love when a minor villain joins the side of the hero after they realize what they are doing is wrong. They were taught what they were doing was right and never questioned it until the "heroes" made them.

I have a few of those!

I NEED to make a few of those! Literally some of my favorite characters are those types of villains.
It really depends on the villain and how "evil" they are. Sometimes a villain is really beyond redemption and so it feels forced when they change sides; however, maybe this villain has been questioning their own motives for a while now, and wants to join the side of good. Even if it's this way, though, it should be difficult for the villain to truly join the heroes' side. Obviously the heroes won't trust them, and they'll still have their own issues to deal with from their villainous days, and maybe contrasting morals. Personally, I love redemption arcs, but it really depends on the villain. Hope this helped!
Thank you for that:)

I don't know why, but this reminds me of that Megamind meme, the one that goes "maybe I don't want to be the bad guy anymore."
