Hellooo! Can someone please help me with some tips for a main religion in my book? It's based on two gods creating 2 worlds - The physical and mental world. The physical world (AKA World of the living) Worship one in many different forms (As many know to be 'god') and the mental world worship another named Ranu. Does anyone have any tips in creating a believable religion for the people to follow? Anything i should or shouldn't do? Oh and btw, these names for the worlds aren't their actual names, i just haven't thought of one yet.
I’m coming from the perspective of a religious person and not so much a good writer who knows what to tell you, but here are a few things I’d probably be looking for information about if I read a story with religion (whether it be from real life or just made up for the story.)
• How do the inhabitants of the physical world view the god(s)? Do they see them as heavenly fathers (or mothers) who always have their backs, or do they just view the gods as people who control things but don’t want to have a relationship with you?
• If there are any, what are the rules of the religion? Why are these rules in place?
• How do the mortals worship the gods? What do they believe about the gods that causes them to worship that way?
That’s all I’ve got for now… I do hope it helps you at least a little!
(Also, just curious - is the mental world the equivalent of Heaven in your book, or is it a different state of being in the physical world? Can people living in the physical world choose to worship the god of the mental world? Which world do people consider “ideal”?)
Thank you for your information!! In the book the 'mental realm' is a sort of afterlife where you leave your physical body (In the physical realm) and are trialled to see what you need to do for reincarnation. So since the people in the physical realm do not know of the mental realm, they cannot worship their god no. However, earth has a god as depicted in many religions. My book remains as non bias as It states no religion is right or wrong about the depiction.
