Mute characters - yay or nay?

It might be tricky. But I'd say go for it!
My sister is currently writing for a mute character and I think she enjoys the challenge.

it depends on the writer and their style
in order to have a good mute character you need to be a good writer in the way that you have to say how they react and such
its a challenge for anyone, you just gotta be up for it

I have one! Her name is Maia, and she communicates using the fae equivalent of sign language.

Mute characters in my opinion are really fun to read. I love the ways different authors write them, but they are hard to find because their inability to speak poses a block when writing them. One of my favorite examples of a mute character is Sara Skonos from Victoria Aveyard's "Red Queen" series. She was written extremely well, and the author used her body language and eye movements to convey her reactions and emotions. I love it when every once in a while a really talented author comes along and writes a bomb mute character.

I have a mute character (well really he doesn't have a mouth but shh) and it's a really fun thing to explore, I'd really recommend it!
