(AKA the wise old man who takes the protagonist in and teaches them all he knows without ever asking who the protag is /s)
Having a bit of trouble coming up with stuff on my own sooo…. What sort of personalities do you guys enjoy in a mentor or teacher? What are you tired of seeing? What do you want to see more of?
I'm absolutely tired of teachers that act like you're a child (like age 6-11) when you're between 13-20, or the know it all teacher that will always have the last word.
in most movies or stories, the mentor/teacher is flawless and does everything, every move perfect. and it's just so unrealistic. also, you don't get any backstory of them most of the time, which is sad because they learned those skills somewhere, don't they?
I'd love to see more younger mentors, the ones i see/read a lot nowadays is the 'old man teaches the young warrior'.
make it a young woman in her 20's/30's for a change!
let the mentor wonder and train and learn new things as well
