So I'm trying to start a story about earth's spiritual protector who had the torch passed onto him too quickly. It's a family tradition that's been passed down to the families first born for generation… except, Cameron (the character) had the burden passed onto too quickly due to his father going to prison for using the families power "irresponsibly." And now Cameron, an impulsive teenage boy, has all this knowledge, power, and responsibility and doesn't know how to use it.
The problem I'm having is I don't know how to write out Cameron's nature and attitude and I also don't know how to introduce spirits into my already-existing stories.
For starters, you mentioned that he is a teenager. Cameron, with an unwillingness to really dig deep and study how to use his powers, can experiment and mess around to see how stuff works. He does some bad and some good things in order to familiarize himself with the given powers and that can explain his impulsiveness. There could also be some "like father- like son" moments, but Cameron is a good person otherwise and tries his best. He could be a little bit of both if you want, maybe like a Chaotic neutral type character.
maybe some family enemy sees an opportunity to take this power from him, thinking that since he's just a kid, he'll be easy to bully into giving it over. he might go through all sorts of challenges to keep this power safe from people who want to use it for bad things, and he'll learn who he can trust and who he can't, and how things aren't all as they appear.
Cameron is stubborn, stupid, violent, quick to anger, generous, caring, thoughtful and protective. He knows what's right and wrong most of the time when he does he'll choose the right side. If he has friends he'll treat them caringly, if he gets stabbed in the back he should have a policy of "try it again I dare you" Most of the time he's a happy mellow guy but he'll switch to angry when provoked.
He can also see two sides of the argument most of the time. He can understand people's motivations a bit.
When he's angry he doesn't listen to others, he just blows them off 'yeah, yeah' to get them to stop talking. If someone tries to take his power he'll spit in their face even if it means
Like that last person said he's chaotic neutral. He's all over the place but he understands himself, he understands his morals, his loyalties and depending on his connection with the main villain and his understanding of him, he'll either give the villain just one chance, or he'll kick their ass.
