I’ve never written ships before, so do you have any advice one that? Also, how to hint that one character has a crush on another character? And I’ve never had a crush on anyone before, so what’s that like, if you’re comfortable talking about it?
M'kay, so:
- The most important thing is for them to have chemistry with each other.
- There's multiple types of relationships just like there is with friendship, there's power couples, friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, slow burn, love at first sight, banter, hookups to lovers, etc.
- Think about what level of intimacy they've had. Have they kissed? If so, how often? If not, why? Do they hold hands? If not, why don't they? Have they gone on fancy dates or casual dates? Have they met each others parents? How long have they known each other? Have they had any sort of sex? Why or why not?
- Make sure to follow the Kiss Rule: If you need to see them kiss to know they're in love, something is wrong.
- In your story, is there any sort of fate dynamic involved? Are they soulmates or not?
- Make sure it's a healthy relationship. This means they talk to each other, they support each other, and neither one harms the other physically. Jenna Moreci has an AMAZING video on healthy relationships that I'd recommend watching.
As for crushes:
- For me, I get really flustered and I mess up when talking. The best example I can think of is when I got my crush a bookmark and accidentally said 'I got you a library'.
- Being hyper-aware of when they're around you is another thing, like if you sit by them in class or on the bus.
- Noticing things about them that you wouldn't notice in anyone else
I'm really bad at describing feelings and in general I have a horrible time telling if a crush is romantic or platonic, so sorry about that part lol
- Noticing things about them that you wouldn't notice in anyone else
Like the entire song of “If I Could Tell Her” from Dear Evan Hansen? (“He thought you looked really pretty—er, it looked pretty cool when you dyed indigo streaks in your hair)
But anyway, thanks!!

Yeah, healthy relationships are key.
