So I have a problem, I am writing a book series and most of the major characters in this series are either in school(middle school to be exact) or are somehow connected to school and I want them to express there personality in any way I can, but I also want the school to have uniforms. It’s not a private school, but my universe is kinda like japan where the magority of schools wear uniforms, it doesn’t usually matter if there in some ghetto where they have school shooting drills or if there in a exclusive privately boarding school where trillions of dollars is the average tuition. School uniforms are seen on one end or the other and everything in between. Should I stick to my original plan and make them have uniforms or should I scrap the ideaology that uniforms are a must for this world.
(Sorry for the long post)

@Oakie Dokie

either way is fine; what you could do with the uniforms is not make it as strict/let them decorate the unifroms? like say you have to wear (for girls) a dress and polo, well then the girls could customize a little
hope this helps ^^

@eyrene10

like Oakie Dokie said, you can make the uniform rules lenient, like they have to wear a specific color skirt/pants and shirt but have different styles (long sleeved/short sleeved shirts, different length pants/skirts etc) and they can also accessorize with jackets, hairstyles, shoes, makeup, jewelry, etc. They might also do things like tie up shirts at the bottom to make a crop top or roll up sleeves or pants or wear skirts higher or lower

@Broken Princess

Personal style through how they wear their uniform - do they unbutton the polo a little bit to show some cleavage? Do they like to tie their blazer around their waist instead of wearing it normally? You could also have them accessorize like @LocalHermit said. My story has school uniforms as well and I have one girl who, when getting her uniform, ordered some of her clothes in the next size down so they were tighter and shorter to show herself off a little more.
