Born to an uptown girl who settled for a poor, street kid, Nicole Marianne Sanders never hoped and tried for nothing short of perfection. As a child, her parents enjoyed a simplistic, “rural” life, which included frequent weeks without internet/TV/or phone use and weekend-long trips to her father’s extended family’s ranch in the country that doesn’t even have running water. In this world, it’s survival of the fittest, kill or be killed. And Nicole was always determined to be on top. She was the “It” girl of her high school. Maybe not by looks, but with intelligence, style, determination, class. Everyone who saw her stroll down the hallways wanted to have her confidence, sense of direction, and stress-free attitude. Former class president, student council representative, founder and president of Future Reporters of America, president of the Politics club, and a well known, helping hand in her school and community, she was welcomed onto the paper as a Freshmen, soon worked her way up to Senior-Editor, Writer, Producer, and Manager of several positions. But, her world came crumbling down with The SomeTimes Paper Scandal of 2017.

After her fellow students didn’t trust her anymore, no one wanted to be her. It was obvious she was stressed out, her calm and cool personality was gone, and she wasn’t voted back into Student Council or any other clubs. The Sanders name was now nothing more than a joke. But, she was gonna make sure no one laughed.

Nicole was determined to save her hard work and dream. She knew that journalism was her true calling, and she was certain she and her best friends, Rosaline and Jack, could save the paper and it’s name. But, something bigger was going on behind the scenes.

A new rival paper, Eastvale Tribune, was making lots of waves in school as a new, progressive paper that told nothing but the truth and frequently slammed The SomeTimes Paper and its’ employees in every issue, going as far as to make cruel, personal jokes about specific reporters and workers. It was clear that this new paper wasn’t leaving anytime soon, and soon, more and more employees left The SomeTimes to work at Eastvale Tribune. But, even when all the odds were against her, she didn’t lose hope. Even when a new wave of untrained, awkward students were hired without her knowledge to do her work that they weren’t qualified for and even when she was to be taught by a dumb supermodel who had no idea what she was doing, she knew she could bring justice to the class. Even when everything bad was happening, she simply took a sip of her coffee, wore her heels a little higher, and walked with an even bigger pep in her step.

Nicole is a kind and good-hearted person with great intelligence, thinking skills, improvisation skills, and motivation. And, despite being easy to judge and quick to jealousy and stress, she gives everyone a chance even if they aren’t as good as they should be. She believes there is good in everyone if you really look for it, but still doesn’t let that get in her way or let herself be walked on. Nicole is a leader, and you better respect her.
