@Seth
So I'm writing a sci-fi romance and one of my characters is a plant girl. Anyways, she doesn't have human sex organs. So how does her kind usually reproduce?

Okay I finished this part of bio like two years ago so I'm gonna be a lil rough on the details bc I'm not sure I remember correctly
So, flowers are key reproductive organs. I'm not sure how plants without flowers reproduce? We didn't go over that. Anyways, pollen from the anthers (male reproductive organs) is transferred by pollinators, like bees! Pollinators carry the pollen to other plants, and pollen gets rubbed off the bee by the plant's stigma (held up by the style). Pollen travels down the style to the ovule (inside the ovary), where the pollen (akin to human sperm) is fertilized, creating a seed. When the flower dies, the seed is spread by the wind, or if an animal ate the seed, by the animal's defecation, or if it just got caught in the animal's fur or feathers, just by traveling.
Of course, flowers can also turn into fruit, with the seeds inside. Think of an apple- first it's a blossom, then a fruit. The seeds are inside the fruit.
I hope this helps!
Just a quick note, IDK what your plant girl's anatomy is, so I'm not sure exactly how she'd reproduce, especially with someone of another species.
But remember- just because their sex organs aren't compatible doesn't mean they can't fall in love. You don't need to write sex into your scifi romance.
@CW_kat_i_am_a_Lostgirl2 thank you for your input!
Sorry for the lack of description in anatomy. I have had some trouble finding a balance between plant and human, so I haven't worked out all the bugs. Anyways, they have a very human appearance except the head and skin. Their skin is green (healthy), yellow (sick), brown (dying). They have solid lips that work like a beak. This "beak" has fang like protrusions that help it eat meat (This species is carnivorous). For hair they have sturdy petal like organs. Also the species doesn't have a uterus in their abdomen. They also don't use seeds. They give birth.
As for the sex scene, I don't plan to have one. But I do want them to have a child, And how the species reproduces will affect the story.
Sounds like you're going pretty original, if they don't have a uterus but give live birth
If I were you, I'd just let my imagination run wild and come up with an entire new reproductive system
Thanks for your help.
Anytime!
Here's what I made with your advise. What do you think @CW_kat_i_am_a_Lostgirl2?
That looks good! The one question I have- wouldn't it be easy to brush petals/hair? Maybe they have head coverings to prevent that? I think glass terrariums with their hair artfully arranged with other flowers would be RAD
Maybe taking off your headdress is a sign of great trust?
Hmmm. Maybe they have to open their petals to reveal their anthers and stigmas. Maybe it is hard to do without actually trying. Maybe they could wear "underwear" on their organs under the petals.
I like the headdress idea too I'll think about it.
Any idea what I can name this species?
Uhhhhhhhhhh
Ok I'm terrible with names
Maybe find a plant they resemble and play around with that name?
Good idea!
Plus if I look at a bunch of flowers. Then maybe something there will inspire me to further develop the race besides just the name.
True!
