I have a guy.
Samaal
Son of two Dragon Elders (they were the first to produce children, and once the other dragons saw how overlypowerful and dangerous these children were (Samaal, and 3 older siblings), they all resolved to reproduce asexually).
Samaal killed his other siblings for some reason…
and then he married the daughter of another dragon elder, had children, and ended up murdering his wife and children, except for my MMC Kaleb, which completely traumatized Kaleb, but Samaal is a master manipulator and has Kaleb doing everything and anything he wants. Kaleb is extremely loyal to his father, but also has an intense and deep rooted hatred for him.
Any ideas as to why Samaal would kill his family ?
Insanity? That's the only one I can think of without an outer force influencing him.
Do you think that would be an okay wat to portray him?
I don't want people to read and be like, ugh bad guy is just a super insane guy and crazy just for the hell of it.
I don't want it to be off-putting to anyone
He certainly looks crazy.
I think maybe the way the other Elders feel about him and his siblings could influence him.

Possibly growing up in the world before the Dragon Elders go into hibernation and feeling/hearing/seeing their judgment and scorn, could mess him up in the head. and maybe being born to two Dragon Elders (im thinking like what happens when inbreeding starts, then you get genetic anomalies or whatever ) caused something in his brain to cut off his ability to feel emotions other than anger and hate.

Man, I've been focusing so much on the background and lore of my FMC and MMC that I haven't gotten to my main baddie.
I have my morally ambiguous antagonist/meddler that does what ever she wants, be it help or hinder, and then a minor antagonist turned friend, and then I have Samaal, what I think of as the reincarnation of all that is evil.
I have one baddie who is bonkers. it was a somewhat slow onset of inasnity. hearing voices, and since he was the only one in his family who had this, he wasnt told/taught how to cope with the voices in his head. after a while, the voices started getting to him. it has evolved over time and his overall mental stability is terrible. hallucinations, random tics, etc. most conflict that he has is self created thanks to his noggin. also makes him VERY complex because no one is able to predict him/what he does.

tbh, our bad guys sound VERY similar. like, mine has killed all of his many wives and children (except for one, who hates him to pieces). and he uses his first wifes skull as a makeshift cup. :)
yeeeahhh….a little psycho
also he had a dream where their god came to him and told him he was destined to rule all clans.
