I'm concerned about one of my characters, because I think he has autism. I'm not quite sure if he does or not. And yes, I'm aware that it is my decision to make it so that he does have autism, but like I said, I'm not 100% sure he does or not. I'm also not sure it's a good idea to make it so that he is autistic in case he isn't.
Well what sort of situation is he in? What is his occupation? It really depends on his situation whether it's smart to make him autistic. It also depends if the idea of him being autistic will make the story more interesting or if it will just make it harder to write the character and what he does, and really doesn't affect the general story.
Well, if you are looking into your character having autism but you don't have any experience with it (i.e. in a friend, a family member, or yourself), it can be very difficult to write an autistic character. Basically, you have to do a lot of research. A lot. If this character is the narrator, that makes it especially difficult to write because then you've got to write thoughts and opinions and emotions and frustrations… but you've never experienced any of it. Some sites to tip you off:
OK. I'm pretty sure his autism had little impact on the story anyways, so…
