I'm writing a story about a band of mages, and i'm just not sure what they're traveling to fight against.

No problem! So, can you give me a rough outline of your character? Motivations, strengths, weaknesses…?

my main character is the official mage of the king's court, she was raised by a court family but was sent away for her education and just never came back because she didn't feel wanted, she always feels out of place and will do almost anything to feel like part of something even if it means betraying people she loves. she was part of a group of mages for hire but she left them to become court mage and now has to bring them all back together, and they all hold some resentment towards her for leaving them.

Okay, now what about the antagonist?

the king sends her to defeat something and that's why she gets back with her old group, i just don't know what to do my first idea was that they have a prison to hold all the mages who turned criminal, and there was an outbreak, but i don't know how that idea would pan out.

So, your main character is the antagonist?

No they would be sent to control the prison outbreak

So the people who come to control the prison outbreak are the antagonists? Just clarifying
