just don't make a joke out of his sexuality/have it as his main character trait. he's just a guy and he happens to be ace.
Make sure he's established as an all around character and that his sexuality doesn't define him, as already mentioned. He's a character first and his sexuality comes later. I would also work on avoiding stereotypes and misconceptions about asexuals. Just because he is asexual doesn't mean he doesn't have emotions. Your character not having sexual attraction doesn't make him cold-hearted. Asexuals don't look down on allosexual people for having sex. They don't think they're better than people who have sex, or that sex is a dirty act. Asexual people aren't innocent because of their sexuality. They aren't soft snowflakes because they lack sexual attraction. Working on figuring him out as a character is also important. Is he sex repulsed, sex neutral, or sex favorable? What's his romantic orientation? Is he aromantic, biromantic, heteroromantic, homoromantic, etc.? If he's not aro, address the fact that he can have a healthy romantic relationship while being asexual. If he is aromantic, make that known, aromanticism and asexuality don't always go hand in hand. They mean separate things. Just work towards building your character as more than his sexuality, but make sure you know the specifics of it.
Thank you so much!!
It's no problem, thank you for writing an asexual character and seeking information on the topic. Representation is so important and validating, especially when done correctly. I wish you luck with your character!
I came here to offer my view as an ace but Pagebook did it fantastically! Great job! : D
