Okay so I LIVE for dorky and shy characters so I love him a lot at the same type I think he fits a little bit too much into the 'nerdy sidekick' stereotype. You did mention that he is more of a background character at the moment but that also meas that there is a lot of room for you to change him up a little bit more.

(Sorry if these are a bit harsh but know that I really do love him a lot!)
