I have been working on developing the idea of my story since June of last year, but I'm terrified to actually write it. I have written out character sheets and loosely constructed plots, but I'm so scared to actually tackle this massive project. I need some advice on overcoming this fear, thank you!
First what kind of genre is the story
Second what plots do you want
And third what characters do you have so far.
@Your-Humerus
1) Its realistic fiction set in a historic setting
2) I have a couple scenes planned out that deal with mostly with character introduction (but I have not written them yet)
3) I have 5 main characters planned out (though two don't show up till later) I don't have any side characters yet either
sorry if I'm being to vague, I just can't bring myself to give away to much of my story, its kind of personal right now :(
I mostly just need advice on how to handle a long-term project. It seems really overwhelming to me :( The longest "long term project" I've ever worked on were school projects that don't last longer than three weeks. Writing something as long as a book kind of scares me, but I still want to do it lol
Than just do it, nothing can hurt you except yourself so just do it.
I just write and don't even read over it until im done with a fairly large chunk. Then you can start editing later.
I can empathise with you, I find the concept of writing an actual book intimidating, even after being published. So my advice is just try not to think about the overall task, and go with the flow, just do a little at a time. Don't worry about if it makes sense, or if it's any good, 'cause if you're anything like me, chances are it won't be. But that's what second drafts are for. And thirds and fourths, and however many it takes. Personally, I like to think of the first draft of the story as just the bare bones, you add the meat later. Just keep at it, and ignore the doubts and you'll do great.
