I'm wondering because the MC in my WIP finds out that she's a Queen of a long lost kingdom and I'm trying to get some ideas for her reaction and the aftermath. If you found out you were royalty what kind of emotions would you go through? Fear? Joy? Anger? Would you run away but come back later prepared and ready to rule your kingdom? How would you rule it? Selfishly? With love? Greedily? What kind of laws would you put in order? What kind of ruler would you be? Merciful? Cruel? Share your thoughts and feel free to add! Thank you
Yo, I should go to sleep but I'm going to post this real quick first. :) I would probably feel fear because I'm an introvert that only talks to others on this site because a friend showed it to me lol. Though I would still try to be fair and try to make some sort of positive change.
Other than that, I currently have a character in a somewhat(?) similar situation. The kingdom isn't really lost but it was taken when he was young, his youth making the attacking king spare him and send him off with another family. While I have him as a wierd main side character I was wondering for a while how he would react. I chose to have him angry and bitter, resigning his positions in the kingdom. That might work for yours if they are a proud character or have built themselves up from nothing when someone knew and could have said they were royalty. Another approach could be sorrow or fear, since you said it was a lost kingdom, when the character sees the kingdom in ruins or whatever has become of it. My last suggestion is more for if they are a bright-eyed and optimistic character, which is the joy approach you asked about. This could work if they believe change can easily happen or they grew up in a supportive setting beforehand. Even at an optimists hand a kingdom can be turned upside down real fast, though that is more of a decision on any story you have or how you think your character would behave when given that power. (Sorry for any grammar mistakes or contradictions, I'm literally only awake because of soda rn.)

I'd probably wonder how the hell no one told me earlier, and why my Mom and Dad would have such public jobs. I'd be in disbelief up until they started actually relying on my guidance, and then I would be in shock.
