Lovable cinnamon rolls. Always putting others first and doing their best. How do you write about that when you're a self-centered jerk? I have several characters that I need to be nice in order to contrast my other very not nice characters, I also need different kinds of nice, you know so they're not the same person with another hair color. Please, nice people of the internet, help me develop a cinnamon roll character.

No I need help with everything. I am simply incapable of understanding how people can be kind all the time.(Maybe not all the time, my characters can have moments where they're mean)

Internally for me it’s like this: being cruel or snippy doesn’t go over well with other people and lowers others opinions of yo, also making other people feel bad is not a good feeling.
Some kind people have high amounts of empathy and can easily slip into other people’s shoes and will he willing to listen to what they have to say before passing judgement, and won’t do mean things (and in fact may offer favors) because it feels good to the other person, and feels good to them too.
Others are a little more anxious and may be nice because they feel like they have to, so as not to stir the pot. They may lack much “backbone” from the view of others.
Then there are people who are nice and courteous but actually more so they can get things in return, like favors, etc. It’s not a bad thing, but the motivation for their kindness is a bit different than the others I mentioned.
There are others, but that’s all that comes to mind right off the bat.

So Wisp is bubbly and sickeningly sweet, I have a hard time writing her because…ew affection.

Maybe she is sickening? Idk when I write nice characters I just do my best to focus on making them genuine rather than specifically caring or cheerful. Like, your character must honestly feel like affection should be expressed openly to everyone, so she's not gonna see anything wrong with it? You really have to be able to put yourself in other people's shoes as a writer ig
Plus the thing about empathy is it really boosts your mood to boost other ppl's moods, so empathetic people are always trying to make others happy for that reason.

Okay sounds good, so being empathetic helps you be a nicer person. Thanks

Most of my "nice" characters were raised in comparatively safe and happy environments.
