I know I have over 40 OCs and I'm still bringing back some.

I'm just curious, how many OCs do you have,
And how many have you killed or brought back?

Bonus question, why did you kill them off or bring them back?

@larcenistarsonist group

I have about 100 characters. as of now, about 32 of them have died. 6 get temporarily resurrected but then they die again. I don't really understand what you mean by brought back? Resurrected? akdhjsks

I kill characters off for the narrative. Not everybody survives, especially when they're faced with deadly encounters constantly. I also kill of characters to show how deadly a threat is and how serious the situation is. I also kill off characters to make their short relationships with others that much more meaningful.

The Six that get brought back get brought back for only a few minutes. They're six godlike mages that were killed by the Big Bad. the entire purpose of the quest the protags went on was to collect all the objects necessary to bring back the mages to kill the Big Bad.

Do TTRPG characters count? If not, then probably about 100 characters split across two different projects.
I don't tend to kill off characters but sometimes, especially recently I find myself bringing back characters who were supposed to be dead at the start of the story, because I like the idea of them too much for them to just be dead lol. It's happening twice this year!

@False-andrew flash_on

In my journal theres currently more than 100 characters; spread across various Google Docs and Microsoft Word docs is another roughly 80; there's currently only one character page here on Notebook.

I have killed about half of my characters, and less than 10% of them have come back lol

Aw man- I’ve got a LOT- over 20 maybe- and I’ve killed quiet a bit of them for drama and plot reasons and brought them back ALSO for plot and drama reasons- some are STILL dead-

@Nor_bananas

I don't even remember how many oc I have. The number changes almost every week. No clue how many I killed. As far as I remember I have brought 5 back. I like people to stay dead :)

@Toaster group

Dude, fam, my bro…

I've got upwards of fifty.
All in the same universe.
Help.

I've killed one,
"Killed" one and brought him back,
And killed one and "brought her back".

@Anxietyfilledcinnamonroll group

I have around 160 OCs in the same universe. I can't help but create more friend children

As for killing and bringing back. I have killed many background characters (mostly unnamed, so I don't get attached), a handle full of side characters (one major, many minor), and a couple major characters (Like 4-6). And for bringing back? I have not brought any back

Oh, God, such a wonderful question to answer!

I have been RPing for about 3 years now, and I can remember the very first OC I ever made.
The original to one of my all time, very feisty French grils, Chris. Originally, she was a Goddess of Negativity, able to control anything negative, and as this varies from person to person, it’s hard to explain, but she could show you the things you feared, and deal with your negative emotions. But only the things the person had a negative connotation to.

Eventually, the RP i used her in died out and then came another chance to use my beloved character. In a demonic sense, I changed her from Goddess, to demon, daughter of Satan himself, in which she had to save the world many times, and lose those close to, also having to kill her best friend who she felt like was a brother to her.

Then, that one died out, and I was at a loss. I loved this well developed character, and then came the chance to use her yet AGAIN, and I was thrilled. And this time, not much about her changed except her abilities, she was more into dark magic, and slowly just used any kind of magic.

Chris is my oldest, and maybe I’ll answer this prompt again sometime in the feature with another one of my beloved characters, or maybe one that was a necessary evil.

@toy_soldiers1020

In my current WIP universe, there are 16 characters with names and relevant roles.
it would be so impossible to count all the OCs I've ever made, but going by universe?
my dreamstate WIP had 9, so now our total is 25
my apocalypse WIP had three main/named characters, so 28
my royals WIP had 2 main characters and I'm not sure I really fleshed out the named background characters. that's 30 now.
Clem, Nessus, and Death, from my funniest WIP concept, so 33.
there's Will and Lacey if we go back a few more years, 35.
I did have a very self-indulgent concept for a minute with 5 or 6 main characters but only 2 ever got a personality, so now we're at 37.
OH AND WHEN I WAS 12 I HAD A WIP– it was pretty terrible and had 2 main characters, that's 39.
god that's a really inconvenient number.

@Rabbi_Arsonist group

Currently, I have over 20 characters(Important) and a WHOLE BUNCH that appear on screen.
I brought back a character form a past series I never finished named Mositar. THEN! I brought back ANOTHER character I haven't used since 2018 🤣🤣😭

23: 3 are side characters only mentioned in passing/or for Backstory. 6 are children of Oc and a canon character

I believe I killed of at least 9 (if were not counting killed as being scrapped/no longer written for)

Encanto: Casandra Madrigal (formerly Álvarez)

dies in childbirth in 2 out of 3 storylines-is a ghost in one of them

Casper: Elizabeth O'Connell (later Mcfadden) and Margaret O'Connell

Elizabeth Most likely consumption (born in the 1860s a stereotypical sickly valedictorian child she was sick all her life to point it weakened her so she was constantly ill

Maggie either suicide or lost will to live after losing everyone

Pirates of the Caribbean: Katherine Norrington

3 possible different scenarios

Complications from childbirth (in this case it's only temporary or near death and could be considered brought back)

Wrongly condemned for Piracy and treason (not brought back)

Sacrifices her self in Battle (Brought back by the Brethren court when the truth of how much she risked for them is revealed)

Once Upon a Time: unnamed Cassidy-Swan daughter of Emma and Neal

Died/assumed but not actually

Good Omens: Lilith queen of hell

Nearly/Temporarily dies in childbirth delivering the Antichrist and Eden. is Revived by Lucifer

Dies during Doomsday during a home invasion by Heaven, later brought back by The Almighty

The Ten Commandments/Prince of Egypt/Pharaoh's Daughter: Almah and her son + unborn daughter

Killed in the Tenth Plague; death of the first born (Considering Almah was pregnant I'm counting 3 deaths for this universe )

152 characters currently on Notebook, though I probably have, at least, twice or three times that in my stories (that’s including all MCs, side characters, and background characters).

I’ve probably killed about half of them, in a variety of ways ranging from old age to horribly tormented deaths. I’ve only brought back maybe 5 characters canonically, though I have non-canon alternate timelines where many of my dead characters survive in one way or another.
