I have 47 spread through three universes (really unevenly there's like five in one, then thirteen in another and then the rest are in the last one) and my friend was shook when I told her even though I don't think it's that many??

I have over 100 characters for one universe alone, so you're good.
oh man that's wild thank you
No prob. I'm of the opinion that stories should have large casts of characters, even if they're just one-not side characters, so that the story doesn't feel too empty and that it's only taking place in a vacuum between just a handful of people. Of course, it all depends on the type of and length of the story, and even the genre, but for big fantasy/sci-fi stories, I believe this is a good rule of thumb.
you can have a ton of characters but you have to have a few to focus on, but if you're gonna pull a broadchurch on your story then go for having as many as you feel fit
