I want to make a "witch race" but I don't know how…can anyone help me out?

If it's a whole species, I'd start with how long they've been around and how they might have impacted history. Maybe how they stay hidden, or don't stay hidden. Maybe a couple events that have taken place in their history or how their governments work. Do they all live together in a country, or are they scattered around the world? Maybe they used to have a country, but it was destroyed. Finding a place for your people to start might help you learn about how they live or how they feel about things as whole. I hope this helps!

Additionally, include things like their nature. How do they act at their base nature? Are they peaceful? Violent? Generally pacifistic but mischievous nevertheless? How do they get along with each other? How do they get along with different races? Do they have a religion? Are there jokes that they might understand that a different race wouldn't?

Has parts of their history been rejected as only a myth? What do they generally do? Like do they do the same "normal" jobs as humans, like doctors, lawyers and teachers and stuff or are they mostly psychics and mystical healers etc or do they all have jobs within their own society like Harry Potter? How tolerant of human culture are they? What would happen in society if someone said, "I'm gay," or "It's my dream to be a trashman," or used human slang? Do they have their own slang? (Going along with having their own jokes) Do they have their own mail and trash etc systems or do they use the human system? (Mostly mail)
