So, I recently decided to create a story in which there is literally no romance involved. Only platonic relationships and fremds! :D So, I was going to make all of the lead characters asexual. However, I understand there is a lot of variety under that category, and wanted some help identifying the right orientation for the characters. Does anyone have any magnificent ace knowledge they can give me?
So basically, what flavors of ace are there? And which ones would be swiggity swag to see in a character?
oh baby yeah! this is right up my alley! so an asexual character can have a lot of different identities; asexuality itself is typically just defined as not having/feeling sexual attraction towards anyone (that's what I identify as) but there's lots of identities under that umbrella.
For example, a character can be aro/ace meaning they don't feel attraction at all, sexual or romantic, or they can be asexual and some form of romantic (hetero, homo, bi, pan, etc). They could be greysexual, which includes people who like sex in theory but don't actually enjoy it in practice, akoisexual includes people who lose attraction when it's reciprocated, reciprosexual means people who don't feel attraction until it's reciprocated, and demisexual means people who don't form a sexual or romantic attraction unless they know the person quite well, which is what my main character identifies as.
You can find some further explanations of these in this article and this one and as always, you can always come back to this thread and ask more questions! I'll leave my notifs on for it so I can see if you add anything else. Happy writing!!
Here are some labels under the ace spectrum
Asexual - No sexual attractio
Aromantic - No romantic attraction
Aroace - being both aromantic and asexual
Demisexual/Demiromantic - need to have a strong emotional bond before having a sexual/romantic realtionship
Cuoipsexaul - Someone who can enjoy sexual content but is not interested in a sexual relationship
Graysexual/grayromantic - someone who experiences very limited sexual or romantic attraction
thank you so so much!! This has helped a ton!! You guys are amazing! I'll lyk if I have any more questions :)
Alright, I'm a simple woman, I see ace, I click.
So since some people already explained some basics, I'll give you some few more possibly useful definitions :)
Types of attraction
- SWISH is aesthetic attraction, like "woah they're pretty"
- SQUISH is platonic attraction, like fremds :)))
- CRUSH is romantic attraction, self-explainatory
- LUSH is sensual attraction, this one I better elaborate bc people mix it a lot. Sensual attraction is physical touch WITHOUT s3x. Like kissing, cuddling, hugging, etc.
- SMUSH is s3xual attraction, doin' the do, and the thing us aces don't.
Opinion on s3x
THIS IS HELLA IMPORTANT AND IDK WHY NO ONE SAID IT YET?????
- S3x-favorable is an ace who is confortable with the idea of s3x, or who enjoys it despite having little to no attraction. It's ok, maybe even good to them.
- S3x-indifferent is as it says, indifferent to that idea. It's meh.
- S3x-negative is someone who doesn't feel confortable with the idea of s3x. It'sā¦ no.
- S3x-repulsed is an ace who not only feels unconfortable, but absolutely repulsed to the idea of s3x. It's disgusting, icky and weird to them. Hey, I'm saying by experience.
SUB-LABELS
- Greysexual is someone who sometimes feels s3xual attraction, but usually not.
- Demisexual is someone who only feels s3xual attraction after forming an emotional bond.
- Fraysexual is the opposite of Demi, it's when someone feels the attraction in the beginning byt it fades once they meet the person better.
- Cupiosexual is someone who does NOT feel s3xual attraction but still desires a s3xual relationship. (I think I might be this bc I want kids but like???? It's icky I don't wanna >:/ )
- Lithosexual, as far as I remember is the opposite of Cupio, someone who feels the attraction but has no desire to get down to business, if you know what I mean.
- Apothisexual is someone who is both ace and sex-repulsed. (What I identify as, but I rather just say I'm ace and roll with it.)
Romantic orientations are the same as s3xual ones, just ending with "-romantic" instead, and, obviously, just change the term s3xual for romantic in all the previous definitions. Heteroromantic, biromantic, homoromantic, aromantic, greyromantic, panromantic, cupioromantic, demiromantic, etc.
So that's it! I hope this brings something new to the table somehow :) I'm on a trip and came back from the dead just because I thought I had left my profile private, my internet's limited here but come on, ace content, I HAD to.
This helps so so so much!! Thank you all for the information!!!
