Ok, so I have this one main character in my novel. He was originally named Spencer Ferris, but I kinda don't like that first name for that particular character anymore so I'm trying to come up with a new one. I've got it narrowed down to 3 so far: Leo, Theo, and Caleb.
Of the three, Leo is probably my favourite. I'm kind of hesitant though because this character has fire powers which is kind of similar to the character Leo Valdez from the Heroes of Olympus series (who also has fire powers). Maybe I'm just overthinking this a lot, but I don't want people to think that my character is a ripoff or that I'm copying, especially since most similarities end there.
What do you guys think? Should I still name him Leo? Or should I try to settle on one of the other names?
I would say if you make his character different enough it should be fine. However, if he is too similar, I kind of like Caleb. Theo is pretty nice too but it depends on whether or not you make it short for something (like Theodore) so just go with your gut i guess.
Leo is great, but if he's similar to another character name Leo, it may be a no-go.
I picture Theo as a shy, nerdy kid (which is sounds like your unnamed character is not), so I say go with CALEB!

I feel like they're different enough in terms of personality. Like I said, the only real similarities would be the name and the fire powers.
I did make a page for him (finally). I don't know if it'll shed any light on anything and it's still a bit of a work in progress, but it's here if anyone wants to look at it.

I'm not sure I'd call him nerdy, but he definitely is pretty shy. I don't know if that changes anything.
hm so i personally would say he seems pretty similar to leo valdez, but that's just because of appearance and motivations alone. other than that, he seems pretty different, but with that personality, i would say probably theo(dore). seems to fit him more. maybe caleb.

Caleb! It sounds smart but not too nerdy and you won't have any problem with other people thinking you did base him off of Leo Valdez.

I think right now I'm leaning towards calling him Caleb. Thanks for all your input guys. I have another character that needed to be renamed so I'm thinking I'll call that character Leo because I really love that name (and this character doesn't have fire powers).
