Hi! I am creating black character for a visual novel and I want to get it right. I know the basics of black hair and different styles (natural, braids, dreadlocks, straightened) but in terms of specific styles and hair care, I am very much clueless. Too many times, white authors who try to include racially diverse characters get things like this wrong or fall into stereotypes and overused styles just because they don’t try to research or get advice from people who would actually know about it. I don’t want to very confidently include an incorrect detail or get something wrong because I couldn’t be bothered to ask, and I know that black hair can support extremely diverse styles, so any advice or recommendations would be fantastic!
