I have a character named Elias Elliot. He is 15, and he is very shy, and doesn't have many friends. He acts like he doesn't care when people make fun of him but he really does. He as very few pet peeves, but the ones he does have, he freaks out when they actually happen. His pet peeves are people repeating themselves, him having to repeat himself, and people changing things without permission. Elias/Eli has light brown hair and green eyes, he had shortish long flippy hair that is always in his eyes. Elias' parents got divorced when he was 3, and his mom remarried when he was ten. After his parents got divorced, Eli goes to his dads house every other week, and lets just say his father doesn't know how to be a good dad. Every other week when Eli is at his dads house he is neglected. He has to take care of himself as though he was alone. Thought Eli knew how to cook from age 8 it doesn't mean he should HAVE to to be able to eat.
I like it, I think heβs very believable but his Dad needs a reason why he is neglecting him, maybe he does drugs? Maybe Eli reminds the dad too much about what he gave up and reminds him of his the mom?
Interesting character concept, you've got several things going for you!
First thing, though, is his name. This is just a personal opinion, but I think his first and surname are a bit too similar and have the same cadence (three syllables in each name plus starting with Eli/Elli makes for a confusing time, especially when trying to remember what the character's name actually is!).
Other than that, was bullied as a kid. Why? With his pet peeves, though, it sounds like he may be on the autism spectrum with an intense dislike for echolalia and change in routine. I'd do a bit of research into that if you decide to go in that direction.
Does he like his stepfather? What does he think of his mom remarrying - did his dad, as well? If he's experiencing neglect every other weekend, why doesn't he ask his mom if he has to still go over? How is his dad neglectful - is he working all the time and never there? Suffering from depression and can't find the motivation to do anything more than sleep? Is he an alcoholic? Does he just think he's the "cool" dad and let Elias do whatever he wants while forgetting that he needs basic necessities?
I really like the premise, but I feel like he could be fleshed out a bit more. Hope some of this helps! ^^;
