Well, it depends. Are you looking for boy names? Girl names? Unisex? Also I personally like to pick them based on their personality, but that's just me I guess

The best idea for names is to go for names that are actually common.

Depending on what type of book you are writing and what kind of character you are writing about, there are a few resources I like, all of which you can find on google. If you are writing a story about a simple and kind cop from 1970s New Jersey, simply look up "Common names in 1970s," or "Common names in New Jersey." Then see which ones stick with you most.

One thing I like to do when looking for a name for a character, I look up a list of baby names and scroll through until I find one I think fits the character. There are also a lot of random name generators, lists of last names, ect. Hope that helps!

If you're looking for greek, dystopian or just cool names in general, I recommend you look at the names of moons in our solar system. Jupiter's moons are my favorite because there are so many and they just sound cool, however, Mar's moons (Phobos and Deimos) are cool choices for a pair of characters who go hand in hand.

Also, browsing on sites like Pinterest are very helpful and have helped me found hundreds of names for characters from all origins and meanings. Hope this helps xXx

when deciding a name you always should think about the character itself and what type of personality and looks it might have and when you look at the character you are just like yeah that is *Nathan or that he/she has the personality of a *Sofia. Well for me that is what I look into when designing a character and I hope this can help you.
