So I'm pretty much revamping one of my characters and I was wondering if anyone had any information at hand about Paranoid Personality Disorder. I'm trying to get as much information as possible. Also, if anyone has any other disorders that have to do with trust issues, and being suspicious of others, that would help.
In addition, if anyone would like to talk about other kinds of metal illness in their characters, it would be very helpful, and maybe others could give some suggestions.
I'm not sure if this helps much but my friend has Paranoia. When she describes it she says she doesn't truly trust anyone or anything, not even her best friends or even parents. She also doesn't like to talk about it much so I don't know much.
I have several characters with mental illnesses and I've done extensive research on each of them because misrepresentation is a very big problem for us. I suggest looking online for as forums and personal accounts as you can find. Just remember that each person's experience is different and not to take mental illness lightly. Good luck!
I'd go researching credible sources myself. Sure, forums will get you personal stories, but it's very important to get basic symptoms from those that know best: mental care professionals. Just know that the long symptom list you are likely to find does not mean your character has to have ALL those symptoms!
Not sure if this relates a ton, but I suppose you can take what you like from it! I have social anxiety disorder and struggle with trusting that others don't secretly hate me. At my low times, I feel as if every compliment is back-handed and I just don't get the joke. That has a bit to do with paranoia. Sorry if that's not super helpful! Thanks for striving to accurately depict mental illness!

Of course! I actually do go to the credible sources first and foremost, I just often find it good to ask people directly; as someone may have been in actual situations and I could get information from them as well.
I uh… completley murder my character Azdan in making him have Anxiety and Depression which is, as everyone knows, the worst mix to have.
I have something called hypervigilance, often times mistaken for paranoia and are similar but are not the same. Hypervigilance is usually caused by a reoccurring traumatic event, anxiety, or underlying health issues. In my case, it's because of anxiety and the fear of a traumatic event repeating. I've had multiple "traumatic" events happen to my family members. Because of this, I often times wake up in the middle of the night because I thought I heard someone calling for help. I'd break out in a cold sweat, my heart would be racing, and it'd be hard to get sleep in general. I become very alert to my surroundings and whenever I'd wake up I'd sit for maybe 30 minutes just listening to all the little sounds in my house trying to pick out what could be a call for help or someone breaking into my house. It helps to just breathe and remind myself that I'm not in danger and that my mind is just playing tricks with me. Here's a great site that explains it very well and even compares it to paranoia if you're still interested.

Hope it helps :)
If you decide to add a panic attack, I can only describe it as like drowning with no way to the surface. I can only speak as someone with Generalised Anxiety Disorder.
I have some slight paranoia and a few anxiety disorders and ho boy is it a trip. Sometimes even if I know something is really illogical and the chances of it happening are slim, I can't help but think "but it could happen and there is a chance of it happening right now oh no".
In Example: a while back when me a few of my friends went to see Wonder Woman in theaters, we all sat in the back row. Now this man came in and sat in the corner of the back row alone when there were other seats that were closer to the middle but not directly next to us available. He was kinda scruffy looking like he didn't take the best care of himself and honestly downright shady looking. Everyone else in the theater kind of ignored him, but he caught me and my friends' eyes. about 15 minutes later he gets up and leaves his nearly full bag of popcorn behind. Not too suspicious right? Well he never came back the entire movie, and as time went by the bag of popcorn kept nagging on our minds. It would have been rude to move the bag or throw it away incase he did come back, but our minds wouldn't have been able to rest had we done nothing. At different points of the movie we made excuses to leave and come back eyeing the bag on the way as we came back to our seats. I had my flashlight on so I could see where I was going, and kind of shone it in the bag briefly to make sure I didn't see anything fishy. I remember another friend of mine kind of picked it up slightly to make sure it didn't weigh like something heavy was actually in it. While we never expressed our concerned out loud to each other until outside the theater when the movie was over, we were all paranoid that shady and shabby guy was one of those domestic terrorists you here about in the news and that he had planted a bomb or something in that darn bag of popcorn. And even though I told myself that it was highly unlikely that the strange guy was a terrorist I just couldn't let it go, and I couldn't focus on the movie really until I was sure nothing was going to happen.
