I've been re-working my characters because the last time I edited them was back in 2018-19 and they were horrible. I finished 2 characters and I want someone to critique them. More than one critique is a-okay!

Sparrow

Violet

I also want to know if Violet could possibly have a form of Autism of something similar because of her behaviour.

I realized I didn't have a very diverse range for my characters and edited a lot of them. Violet was always going to be very shy and quiet but I want to see if I can have her be autistic and not change much about her.

I apologize in advance for anything offensive I may have said, I try not to be dense but can be an idiot at times :)

Hi! I just took a look at Violet, as I am on the spectrum. It seems to me like her actions can lean towards her being autistic. Her personality is great and I love that you're asking about it! So yes, I believe you can put her down as autistic if you would like. Remember to not shy away from the fact: I'm autistic and it's a part of who I am! Nothing to be ashamed of! Also keep in mind doing research and writing her so she isn't reduced to just her disability. Being autistic may be a part of me, but I have other things about me!

Alright, cool!

If you don't mind, can you tell me how I can make her autistic while still fitting her into her assassins role?

What kind of things are there that can prevent her from doing her job like the rest of the crew?

You said she uses a custom-made sword after she meets Sparrow, so it would be cool to mention that Sparrow also made the grip of the sword out of a material she likes. As for hindrances, sudden loud noises and bright flashing lights would probably be a no-no, so you could mention any accommodations the team makes for her. (Custom-made goggles, like aviator goggles, would be really cool!!).

Definitely make sure she has something that satisfies her stimming/fidgeting. Ex: a necklace wrapped around the handle of her sword to play around with, the assassin team having a plan for her vocal stims if she has any. She would make a really cool assassin overall

What would be an example of a vocal stim? Would it be similar to tics?

The idea of giving her a pair of goggles is really cool. She's so cute already, I feel the goggles would add a little something to her. I think that I'll give her some but she won't get them right away, maybe in the future she has a problem that causes her to make a mistake during a mission.

A necklace sounds like a good idea, I think I'll make her have a beaded necklace that has different sizes and shapes of beads but it is magnetised so it could be used as a tool.

I've heard that autistic people dint like to be touched, if this is completely accurate, do they have some issues in the romantic aspects of their lives?

Also I'm not sure if this is the correct term for it, but when they get overstimulated, they tend to have some form if a breakdown right? If so, what does that look like?

(I apologize in advance if my questions are annoying or offensive in anyway)

Not offensive at all! Thanks for asking! Some autistic people don't like to be touched at all, but most of the time they like it if it's on their own terms. I hate hugs unless I'm the one initiating them. So for romantic aspects, she wouldn't have much trouble as long as her partner is making sure any sort of touching is consensual.

As for the meltdowns, yes, those can happen if we're overstimulated. My personal experience with them is much like a panic attack: my breathing gets quick and shallow, I can't handle any sort of noise or lights, and I can start crying. The best thing to do in that situation is to quickly, calmly, and safely remove the person from the situation that is stressing them out and offer them some sort of comfort if they would like it: a fidget, food, water, being hugged, or just being left alone until it passes.

And yes, my vocal stims are a lot like tics. I have quite a few, including just absently going "bapbapbapbapbap" and my personal favorite, saying "bees" in a British accent.

She likes to sing so I think I might make that into a "safeword" where it helps her calm down. I think I might give her a vocal stim that happens when it gets too quiet, like humming or something similar.

I'm thinking that for the bracelet she wears, I might make it a charm bracelet that has a mini rubiks cube, some silicon charms, and a small whistle for her to stim with.

I think that's all the information I need for now, anything else you think I should know about how to write an inoffensive autistic character?

Thank you so much for helping!
